I Am Losing All Faith In Humans

Pets at home don't sell the cavy 60 but many pet shops do especially the online ones they recommend two guinea pigs or one rabbit

It is not a case of them being legal or not. It is a case of minimum standards for housing each animals. You can buy what ever you like. But, it is being miss informed about how much space animals need for well being. Not everyone will research. They will just got to the shop and ask, and get told what ever they are marketed as.

Yes sorry your right. It think all pets at home cages are too small plus they no longer sell bigger cages in their stores anymore they only sell the 120 and 140 online now. Which means impluse buyers have no option to get the small cages because pets at home do deals on buying 4 guinea pigs it works out cheaper to buy 4 than just 1

Selling them might not be illegal but I'm sure if the spca were called to a house where 2 guinea pigs were being kept in a 60cm cage they would definitely take them and press charges. My local pets at homes don't do 4 pig deals and still sell the 120

Not sure how pets at home get away with this then any ideas?

Not just pets at home but online stores too surely if charges were pressed then why do cavie 60 cages show rabbits in them. Just now I saw amazon selling a cavie 60 ideal for a rabbit it states.

To be honest unless standards change or legal limits are introduced how can we change this situation?

I guess we just don't stop pestering! And we can't stop informing people, the more people know about proper animal care the better. Then less people will buy the cages and they'll have to eventually stop making them. Perhaps they get away with it by saying that people were misunderstanding its use.

It is perfectly fine as a hospital cage for a single piggy! I used one myself for exactly that purpose before the bottom was turned into a hay tray.

The cage is definitely not adequate for anything else when it comes to piggies. :(

Yeah, it's just the poor little man's hospital cage while we try and feed him back up a bit. He's just not putting on any weight. He's always been light, fast metabolism, but he's lighter than normal... -sigh-

Three guinea pigs in an 80 cm cage? This is mutiny.

It sounds like they had nowhere to hide in their larger "scarier" cage, no tunnels or hideys, it's no wonder they were scared. Solution: Add pigloos, tunnels, etc., DON'T give them a tiny cage!

@WDMMBT I also have two spare 80cm cages that I use as hospital cages and travel cages. I'm sure you are doing the right thing by your piggy as he is unwell - and so sorry to hear of that as well.
