I found a lump on Anna

I put some pellets on a plate so she wouldn’t have to strain her sore neck to get in the food bowl.
 
Poor girl! Did he get the entire abscess out or will you have to flush it and let it drain? I hope she makes a speedy recovery. She actually looks better than Sundae did after her abscess surgery, she looked a mess with her big open, draining wound!
 
Anna is still really groggy and has only eaten a few strands of hay that I hand fed her (and she ate those really slowly). She is now 7 hours post op, is she still dealing with the anesthesia? Her eyes are squinty and watery and she is just not bouncing back yet. I’m really worried and I’m scared to go to bed thinking something might happen to her. Should I start syringe feeding her or is she too lethargic to handle it?
 
I syringe fed her a little and I could hear her chewing it so I guess that is good. She still looks awful, I can’t lose another piggy and she is my daughter’s favorite, she will be crushed.
 
I am so sorry! I would definitely check back with the Dr. In the morning if she doesn't look better. Hopefully she will have a good night and better morning. 😔
 
My heart goes out to you as another looking after a post op piggy.
We got some extra painkillers for Jemimah and that has helped but it's taken since Friday for her to show much interest in life or food again.
It's such an anxious time - hoping for a speedy recovery for beautiful Anna
 
Anna made it through the night. She was really puffed up and shaking this morning, she must be in a lot of pain. I gave her pain med so hopefully once that kicks in she will perk up. I also syringe fed a little just to keep things moving. If she doesn’t start eating on her own when the pain meds start working, I guess I’ll be syringe feeding.
 
I’m taking her back to the vet at 12:40, dr greenfield is not in until 12:00 today. She is making weird noises when she breathes and just still looks awful. She is shaking and has not pooped at all since the surgery. I just syringe fed her a little more but she will barely take anything.
 
Jemimah didn’t poop until Sunday and then it was a pretty pathetic effort.
She’s not pooping much still but at least it’s finally happening so hopefully Anna will also start pooping soon.
Hope all went well at the vets today
 
It is a reaction to the anaesthetic - it does funny things to a piggy's body. When she starts pooping again it may come out looking like a bit of dry lumpy string so don't be surprised. Christian's poop was like that for a day or so after his op earlier in the year. I mentioned it to the vet nurse and her reaction was "at least he's pooping!"

So she went a few days without pooping? My boys pooped a few hours after coming home from neutering so I was expecting Anna to do the same.
 
It might depend on the type of op. Anna’s sounds as if it was quite a big deal.
Jemimah went in for an abscess removal and ended up being spayed as well because of ovarian cysts.
Pain suppresses appetite so if Anna is uncomfortable and is having difficulty eating she won’t be pooping.
I did an emergency dash to the vet hospital on Saturday because Jemimah wasn’t eating and another anxious phone call on Sunday which resulted in my husband going to pick up more pain meds plus gut mobility meds.
If it’s any consolation I’ve just given Jemimah her evening meds and a little recovery food. She rewarded me with a fairly generous delivery of poop all over my top as she’d wriggled out of her towel.

Thank you, you are so sweet! I’m glad your girl is doing better. The vet said if she doesn’t start eating on her own by tomorrow he will give me a 2nd pain med.

She’s so much better! She was wheeking this morning and she finally pooped! She still isn’t interested in eating, but the syringe feeding is going better. I called the vet last night because she looked like she was in so much pain, he had me come in and get an additional pain med which I think helped her. It’s such a painful place right where her jaw and head and neck meet. Here is a comparison of yesterday to today, so much better!8E54D590-8852-4C0F-9D28-E90BB74B5C5A.webp
 
Aw bless, she looks much brighter hopefully she'll start attempting to eat soon. I really don't like injectable GA, as it can have really bad side effects on these little guys but equally it is necessary at times especially for a big op! I have found sometimes it's taken as long as 3 - 5 days for the piggy to bounce back completely. Just keep up the syringe feeding, does she have gut stimulants?

Glad she has some more painkillers Hopefully she's on her way to recovering now!
