How is little Dumpling today? x

Hi All!

Thanks again for all of your concern and posts :)

Dumpster is actually a little depressed today I think, she's looking at the cage divider (C&C cubes) a lot and just staring until you go over to her, at which point she perks right up and comes to see you talking away - doesn't help that neither Tiny or Poggle have made much of an effort to go and sit by the divider with her! Poor little thing :(

She's still eating like a horse and her movement is good even despite the size of scar! I opted for buried stitches for her as she likes to nibble around that area and I'm so glad I did.. she's been paying it a bit of attention and I think she'd have chewed on the stitches had they been there!

She doesn't have any pain relief at the moment, she had a pain killer shot (that's supposed to be long acting?) after the procedure yesterday afternoon and she has an appointment at 9 am tomorrow so we haven't got anything else for her, I did speak to the vet this morning to make sure she wasn't meant to have anything and they said no but if she seemed in any pain or discomfort then they would do her a prescription, so that's always reassuring I guess!

Thanks again for your kind words everyone, Dumpling is enjoying her own private bowl of vegetables and private hay but clearly missing her little friends :(

Awww Poor little girl :( Glad she is eating well.

Yes, the injection will help and is long acting, I would consider asking for some oral metacam should she need it tomorrow once the injection wears off.
Hope her friends will got and sit by the divider with her and she can be reunited soon. You have doen a wonderful job with her. x x

Oh poor baby. It is such a shame she is feeling lonely. Maybe you can have her with you a bit more often until she is well. I really hope she recovers soon.

Hello all!
Dumpling has had to be reglued today as she managed to pop open the cut in the night and was nibbling the sutures when I got up. Nigthmare. Luckily she had an appointment for 9am anyway so I wasn't frantic when I found it!
She's much happier today and we had lots of snuggles yesterday which cheered her up! Sadly I'm at work now so my dad is watching her so fingers crossed she's ok!
Lee I promise to reply to your PM later on :)) I always seem to get on here on my phone which doesn't let me reply properly to PM's lol! X

Oh dear! Thank goodness you had an appointment anyway so it could get sorted out.

What a nightmare, she's chewed them apart again mallethead

Luckily the emergency vet was very nice and poor old Dumpo has a plaster and a bandage on too to stop her picking at them again!

The shame. :))

I'm hoping not too haha, what a little nightmare pig! We're at the vets AGAIN tomorrow to check them over again just to make sure she's finally healing up.. luckily all looks quite clean (if slightly untidy now!).

Poor little pig, I don't think she means to be a pain :))

Aww, how cute with her bandage! I'm not sure it will stay on long though & obviously you can't make it tight around her tummy. Did the vet give you any Metacam in the end? If it is irritating her or feeling sore then she might be more likely to nibble at the wound. Metacam is anti-inflammatory so can sometimes help with calming down irritated areas & as it reduces pain, it might make her less aware of the wound. How is her weight? As she is missing her friends she might not be eating as much as normal so I would weigh daily if possible.

Leave those stitches alone Dumpling! :)

Aww little Dumpling. Poor thing cannot understand not to chew the stitches. I hope the bandage works.

How did the vets go? x

Sorry to not update, I'll reply properly later but this is such a nightmare.

Waiting for the emergency vets to call back, she's peeing strong red now and has been at her ststches again. I anticipate we'll be back at the vets this evening. Lord alive, I just want my baby better 8...

Oh so sorry to hear things are not great with dumpling. How does she seem in herself, eating and drinking?

Its so heartbreaking, but thank you for your kind words. She seems OK in herself and eating and drinking as normal, so that's always a good sign. I just wish she didn't have what looks like a possible UTI on top of everything :(

Oh poor Dumpling. :( You must be so worried. Let us hope this is just a usual URI and can easily be treated.

Oh poor Dumpling. So sorry to hear things are not going well after all she has been through. I hope it's something easily treatable and that Dumpling will be back to her old self in no time. :)

Just caught up with this. How is she today? What did vets say? X

Hello all, sorry to be terrible with my replying!

I'll go back to where we were on Sunday night... mallethead

So the emergency vet called back at about 8.45 (she was in the middle of sewing up a cesarean when I'd spoken to her and left my details for a call back!) and she was just lovely. We always saw this vet with Tiffy when she was poorly and I can't fault her and her interest in the guineas. We had a long chat on the phone and I explained the set up and how she had been over the day etc. She thought it was most likely to be stress induced inflammation of the bladder and that it should settle down but that we'd start with some Septrin to cover all bases as she's so close to being post operative. We went through all of the possible causes of stress for her, taking into account the set up she was in and the operation etc and we decided to go ahead with the AB's as we thought they were the best plan.

SO. The red wee has now stopped and Dumpling seems a little happier. But we have had a little battle getting there, she's been pulling at the stitches again and has been off her food, so we've been having to tempt her out with her favourites.

She's also had to be separated fully from the other cage as I didn't know what to do. Suddenly on Monday she just started throwing herself at the partition and panicking around the cage frantically as if she wanted to get to the other piggies. Poor baby, so she's now in our hospital cage in the living room with Crumby and Mousey nearby. She seems much happier and can crawl out of this one onto my lap when I open the door, saving me having to touch the injury site (much to my relief as I was afraid I was irritating it!)

So that's that! She's been on a critical care, oats and apples mix I've been putting in the cage too.. I'm hoping to prevent weight loss by topping her up now, rather than having to try and put weight back on. Poor little girl but as you can see.. it obviously tastes nice enough to come out from under your hammock for!

Poor little thing, you are doing a fantastic job. I am hoping she will start to feel better soon. Give her a gentle stroke for us x

Oh poor Dumpling. She sounds like she really misses her friends. You are doing all you can for her. I really hope she gets better soon.

Poor Dumpling - just caught up on all this! Hope she is doing ok today xx

Hi Guys!

She's doing remarkably well now, considering everything! She's sat with me munching hay and popcorning around :)

Thanks for all your concern and kind words, we're both much happier today :))
