I Know Which Pigs I'm Getting!

I'm quite nifty with a pair of scissors although banned from doing human haircuts since my children were toddlers and now refuse but guinea pigs I can do 🤩 (they complain less too).
Oh, please teach me! How did you get your guineas to be still for long enough to get a haircut/brushing? The boys have such wild hair, I'm glad I bought a good grooming kit now:lol!: Just the thought of having scissors around wiggly piggies already makes me nervous

I know someone on the forum is making a grooming guide(Is it @Betsy ?), but I don't know when it's being posted.

My S.O. and I get haircuts regularly because we have very short hair(usually every 2-3 weeks), but I've never had the skill to do it myself. Colour me envious of your skills!

Yes it's me! I'm working on the final draft now and then it has to be looked over by one of the Senior Forum Members to check it's in the correct format etc. Should be within the next few weeks.

Oh awesome! I'm glad I remembered correctly. I'll be looking forward to it then! I'm sure I'm not the only one anxiously awaiting a guide :)) Thanks for writing one!

I think my kids would debate whether or not I have skill 😂 but my pigs love being groomed and sit nicely with a box of parsley in front of them! If they shuffle off I just plonk them back. I contributed to Betsy's thread a little while ago asking people what they do : here it is
Help needed for Forum Piggy Hair Cuts and General Grooming Guide Please

I actually prefer hair trimming to nail cutting as a couple of mine have black feet & I've been known to cut the quick which makes me feel awful so maybe you can help me with that! It doesn't help that since I turned 40 I need glasses for close up work 🙄.

I have a rather tongue in cheek one here
Guide to Cavy Coiffure (or how to give your guinea pig a haircut)Part 1
and here
Guide to Cavy Coiffure Part 2
if you want to check those out.
Those are pretty useful! Thank you for linking them in. They're very funny too xD

Shelby looks so good trimmed, and untrimmed! I don't know if I could do a full body trim, I'm not that confident, heheh... maybe though! I'd worry about absolutely butchering the hairdo though with uneven lengths.

Ahh, that sucks! I'm pretty young, but I'm over half blind in my eyes, so I use pretty heavy glasses too. When I had my beardie, Raphael, trimming nails was easy. He was an absolute darling, and I would trim him either on his favourite log or on a rock. I'd pick up one foot at a time with the brightest light I had on hand 6-10 inches away. I'd cut about the width of the nail clippers off at the time, and at his longest after a major vacation, I never got more than 2 scissor-widths(about 2.5 mm?). Typically, a 1 mm segment is enough to keep nails from being sharp or too catch-able. It does mean more frequent clippings, but I found that 1 mm every other week was far less stressful, and it helped build up a positive association with the clippers once I stopped cutting the quick. Beardies have very clear nerves though, compared to guinea pigs, so I'm not sure how well this advice will go down with piggies. If nothing else, Raph would always pull his leg away if I tapped the nerve lightly with my fingers or nudged it with the clippers. Perhaps guineas will do the same?

Update! I've just found out that they both had a Sheba Mini Yak for a mom! Different moms though. Koda sure looks like a Sheba based on all the pictures I've looked up, but what in the world could Kenai be then? What breed has such curly, frizzy looking hair? I think I'm going to bring this over to the breed chat, because I'm totally lost xD
