i think my guinea pigs cage is way too small for the both of them, especially with their personalities. i cant free roam them because i have a dog and a cat, so i need to get them a bigger cage so they can have all of their needs plus lots of extra space to run.

i don’t have the money for a cage right now, so is there anything i can do to the cage until i save up my allowance for a new one? (photo is my cage now)

when i do save up, what cage should i buy? i need one big enough for 2 guinea pigs and all of their needs + extra space to run. i also need new toys for them.any suggestions?

i know this is a lot, but i want my piggies to live the best life!

A Midwest cage (which is what you have the looks of it) is the minimum amount of space for 2 guinea pigs. If you would like to expand, I would recommend a C&C cage. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to build and add on to if you get more piggies or want to expand further. Also, do you have boys or girls. The recommended for two girls is 2x4 grids, while it is 2x5 for two boars. I have three piggies in a 2x6 C&C and they have plenty of space to run around. You could try a 2x5 or 2x6 if you want to give them heaps of space. You can also add a top to the cage if you're worried about your cat and dog. Hope this helps!

Are they boars or sows? And how old are they? You could go with a c&c which you can build to your preferred configuration, as long as it meets the minimum requirements (2x4 for sows and 2x5 for boars). You can also build it on a stand and build a lid as well. In the meantime could you buy a playpen and set it up around their cage so they have access to that space 24/7? Though I’m not sure how that would work with your cat and dog. You’d need to be supervising. So perhaps that’s a no go.

It’s good you want to give them more space. I would try and see if you can borrow money from someone so you can get a bigger cage sooner rather than later.

As for toys, they don’t play with them. so I would save that money to go towards their cage. Go cheap and get some cardboard boxes. Cut two entrances in them and pop them in. You could also stuff empty toilet rolls with hay.

i have 2 girls! :) and thank you so much!

You can join two Midwest cages together too. I was watching a video of this just last night. I thought it was a good idea. It’s great you want to give your piggies the best life. 😊

C+C are good to build your own indoor cages from, they needn't be too dear, and you can add to / change the cage when you get more panels. I did admittedly buy one ready made / kit one from Kavee which was quite expensive for what it is. I've since bought more C+C panels from Amazon to change the cage (raised it and made storage underneath, added a lid to make sure they can't climb out), and the latter sets were far, far cheaper, especially if you don't need them in a huge hurry. I think my last lot were from Songmics and Eugad on Amazon (although there are many sellers), the latter was 20 GBP (approx $28) for 12 panels, so it doesn't have to break the bank.

So did I. I wasn’t really keen on keeping my piggies in a Midwest so I upgraded to a c&c. but if people are going to keep multiple pigs in Midwest then doubling them is the way to go and works great from what I seen.

When it comes to pigs there's no such thing as too much space.

I agree a c&c is probably the easiest and cheapest way to increase space.

A Midwest is roughly 8ft² so ok for 2 sows.

My 2 girls have 21ft². (2ftx6ft hutch with 3ftx3ft c&c attached).

Best toys are DIY. Cardboard tubes stuffed with hay and forage always go down well with mine.
