Illness Again.... Poor Piggies!

I often sit mine on a pillow too which they tend to feel secure on.

This morning I heard lots of screaming (the kind you tend to get from a pig who is fightened when you pick them up or when cutting nails, not the submissive noise)

I went upstairs thinking it may be Angelina in pain or something but it was lacey. she carried on screaming when I stood there but no one was near her and she wasn't weeing or pooing or anything just sat there screaming. I picked her up and she screamed blue murder (which is out of character for her) I'm now thinking maybe it is bullying, she refused her mash and pro c this morning and wouldn't hand feed hay... she could have just eaten though. she ate some lettuce and beans and pepper (I fed this after the experiments).

they do rumble a lot it is both of the other 2 in the trio that rumble so maybe they are ganging up on her? she is active and
runs around, she wasn't wet this morning on her bottom which is fab! I am going to try keep an eye on them but whenever I am in the room they tend to stop what they are doing (usually before I even get into room) so I don't entirely know what goes on.

Hoping the wee sticks arrive soon so I can rule this out or in. I am going to make an appointment at a different vets for 31/1 as this is when I have an appointment for same vet to check on both of them. lacey is on baytril for 10 days...

obviously if she continues to loose weight or has a dramatic loss I will go back sooner

I witnessed her eating pellets and timothy hay this morning so she is eating thats good news fingers crossed

That's good she is eating.

It could be stress related but does seem a lot to lose from that. I would get her checked out before 31 January if she continues to lose weight.

Gosh what a lot you have been through. I just read it all. I really hope your girls recover soon.

Update. Her weight has gone up wahoo its 963 today it is not true weight though cos sadly I forgot to weigh before meds and syringing. But if you take that into account she still would be heavier. She wasnt wet again on her bottom I really think it must have been urine infection or something as the baytrill seems to be working.

Angelina is still as licey as ever but she had so many it may take a few goes of baths and invermectin to get her fully better. She seems happier though not in pain she does object to you touching her back anymore

Great news about Angelina not being in pain and good that Lacey is not covered in wee anymore and has gained slightly.

Hmm lacey is back down to 907gms :( and a little damp on her back end hoping it is just a blip. If she looses again tomorrow she, s going back to vets.

Just witnessed a rumble session ruby rumbled lacey did submissive noise and put her head under rubys she put it under ruby didnt put it on top. Ruby then carried on and she put it under again now she is lead down where she was and ruby keeps coming over. is this bullying? Ill try get a photo

I'm not sure, mine have never done the head under thing, I think it is normal dominance but hopefully someone will be able to answer.

Don't think that is the reason for a 200g weight loss though and especially the drop she had over the first few days, especially if she is eating.

Ok well we will see. I'm tempted to remove ruby as she is the alpha sow but that very well may make squeek become alpha sow and act the same. Poor lacey she is a pushover. maybe adding a baby girl into mix will help or one of my boys (once neutered) its a minefield

I know she definately get on with squeek become whenever she is startled she squashes herself next to squeek

Now I'm not sure lacey is cuddling ruby and squeek is a lazy so and so and keeps nipping rubys bum so she can lie down in hay tray whilst eating I dont think its bullying now but I think they will prob benefit from a fourth member so noone is left out

@Wiebke id appreciate some advice re sow groups. The last two days laceys weight has held stead at 912gm.

yesterday I thought id try something. I normally give my pigs a piece of veg each in their miuths or if they are shy next to their feet then share rest out with piles next to them so they dont squabble.

last night I decided to do a bowl of veg for my trio just to see what would happen. It seems squeek is alpha sow and ruby is middle one they both sat eating away and lacey sat at back waiting her turn. It was only when one wandered off she got a piece and then quickly moved aqay when they came back.

I'm now thinking she may be unhappy she was 1200-1300 when her husband was alive! Shes 2.5 years so not old but the other girls are only young maybe 8 months

I was wondering if adding another baby girl to group would help her or whether to remove her completely and pair her with baby girl or neutered boar?

Update on lacey. Her weight had stablised so I started to believe the vet saying she could be fine. But yesterday and today she lost weight again.

Ive just checked her teeth (only front of course ) and one seems slightly crooked at the bottom. Only very slightly if you weren't try to find something you wouldnt so now I think it is her back teeth.

The vet had a look at them with the light stick and said they were fine:mal:

shes only 2 and half possibly three so i feel it is a bit young.... She was covered In wee Again tonight so I presume she Is in pain and doesnt want to move much. i have given her some metacam and i will take her to vets tomorrow.

gonna ring round and see i can find one thar does consious dentals but not holding out much hope :(

Ok back from vets. Must say I'm so happy that I took my "straight jacket" from chucklebunnies. They were able to manage xrays and bloods with no squirmy piggie! So much better than sedation. In the end I went to my tried and trusted vet at lytham.

It doesnt seem to be teeth, they suspect bladder or kidneys she kindly wee'd all over vet then me so she didnt have full bladder for x ray. Good news was she had food in her gut.

they tested her wee and it had blood in it and it was very watery but I did give them cucumber for the ride to keep them hydrated.

ive been given some vetergesic pain killer as metacam will damage her kidneys if they are the problem..

I'm so stressed as she is so young and I feel like I may loose her. just been and bought some different nuggets the burgess with blackcurrent and some of those complete cubes and some alfafa timothy hay to try to get her to eat I will put her normal nuggets in too so she can take her pick.

ive decided to go back to syringe feeding again to get her weight back up whilst I am waiting for bloods as if she needs an op I want her to have a little more weight on her. Got some metayone tonic and probiotic to give her also.

is there anything else I can do for her in meantime? She is sitting in her wee a lot so going to keep babywiping so she doesnt get wee burns. @helen105281 have I got everything or is there anything else?

Thanx Its funny isnt it how vets can differ I knew something was up but the vet i went to initially as couldnt get to my preferred one tried to say she seemed healthy without really bothering to look at her. Take her to exotics vet and bingo she wees on vet and is found to have blood in wee. It annoys me so much!

Luckily I have this forum or I would have sure people do! I also feel guilty as she has been in pain snd I didnt know :(
