I actually though this was a very useful and interesting article. I appreciate why some people may think its a bit of harsh critique on the use of fleece, however I do think she gave a good account of correct washing, preventing skin problems etc.

I haven't made my mind up about whether or not to use fleece, I shall certainly give it a unbias try but certainly wont stick with it just because its the latest thing that everyone is using.

This is my eighth year of using it. It's definitely not new, megazorb is far newer and more fashionable! It certainly isn't an easy bedding to use so believe me when I say people don't stick with it because it's the "in" thing, they use it because it works!

hmmm don't like the tone of it either.

When i had my daughter I used washable nappies and inside those were fleece linings (when it wasn;t too warm). Fleece was used as it's okay next to the skin and wicks the wet away from their bottoms. It's commonly and safely used too.

So if it's okay for a babies bottom then its okay for piggies too. My skinnies are on fleece and trust me they are in fine health with no skin problems and neither have ever had a water infection.

I do agree washing powder is important, make it kind. I wash them at 40 - 60.

After the first post I have watched my piggies with their fleeces and hay.

A week later I can confirm that my piggies, all 5 of them, much prefer to burrow under fleece than hay to sleep (I checked on them at many times of the day). They love their hay, but see it more as food than comfort or play. Freshly washed fleece is even better and there is lots of popcorning under and over it :)) I do add extra for them to burrow under.

Only one of my piggies sits for longer periods in the hay loft (there is a layer of megazorb underneath it all) - her with the wettish bottom (she's short haired btw). All the others, including 2 long haired, have dry bottoms all the time ;)

And - 2 of the girls who've moved back inside for winter are so much happier and cleaner on fleece than they ever were on just megazorb and hay - to the point that I will keep them on that all the time now.

I think fleece is great and so do my piggies :)

Jo x
