Inoperable tumour

I’m worried about the inevitable happening again. When we get another companion, one will die first and the other one will have to grieve.

You could consider getting a young same age pair so that you do not face that problem so soon again. But we all experience it as piggies usually don't pass away together (or if they do, it is usually under distressing circumstances, like from heat stroke). :(

This is very poignant. Now, whenever I go into the room, Ophelia immediately comes out to see me. This is very different behaviour as she had stopped doing so a long time ago, to the extent that we had her vet-checked relatively recently. If, over the past year, you had tried to guess which one were ill, Bianca or Ophelia, you would have thought that it was Ophelia. (In the end, the vet-check fine, we had concluded that she must be hard of hearing because she so often would not emerge. But clearly not.) I am going in to see her more often, giving her a trail of rose petals every day (freshly plucked from the climbing rose!) as well as making the vegetable extras a trail. (The extra vegetable treats are now a fixture as we started adding them in eleven months ago when we thought Bianca had so little time to live.) I'm trying to keep her active and curious. It doesn't look like she has even started on the new carrot cottage we bought her as soon as Bianca died.

I am worried about her being on her own for much longer, even though it has barely been a week since Bianca died.

Of course I don't know Ophelia, so I may be off the mark, but other than being poignant, this strikes me as being sweet, in a way. And also Ophelia having trust and faith in you. She's definitely communicating.

A good long while ago when I was inpatient, I had a bereaved solo piggy who was staying at my neighbours (bunny Slaves). On a half-day visit home, I went across to see litte Mucki while the neighbours were out, and she came out of her hidey to see me. Later my neighbour said that when she came home and went into that room, Mucki came out too all expectant and happy but then went right back in again - wrong person!

I hope you can find a new and suitable companion for Ophelia soon. Sending vibes of support for Ophelia.

What a lovely reply. Thank you.
