Hi group....newbie here!
Trying to look for pet insurance but there seems to be very little providers. The only one i have seen is Exotic Direct. Does anyone have any advice?

I have had my piggies insured with Exotics Direct, never had a problem & reasonable prices. I definitely recommend insurance, one of my piggies cost me in excess of £3000 as she wasn't insured.

Mine are insured with Exotics Direct too . It's a pity there aren't any other companies that insure - but, I'm happy with the service from Exotics Direct.

Yep - £2000 claimed last year up to 4th October when my policy renewed and already claimed £800 since 5th October with ongoing expenses for Bumble

I have a lot of pigs so insurance is not an viable option. I have a vet fund that I put into regularly and so far that has been ample for my pigs needs (most have never needed any serious treatment) and works out much cheaper than having to insure them all individually. I think for one or two pigs Exotic Direct is the best option, from what I've heard.

I was still within my 14 days when my Penfold became unwell he's not covered and I have had to pay £400, which the credit card has had to pay.

Although I have previously went along time with no claims. This year and last was particular bad for vet bills both my Pebbles and Milo had over £500 of vet bills to pay thankfully both where insured. They where both older 5 years plus. For me it is very much peace of mind I would rather pay a premium and not have to find money than struggle to find money but it does very much depend on the person and circumstances.

Just got a quote for 3 ,and it is 42.00 a month , I think I would rather put that in a bank account and hopefully it would build up , should I need it.

is that for 3 separate policies ?

I have one policy - you can insure up to 3 guinea pigs on the same policy

It's for one policy with 3 pigs on it, I have 8 and the max on one policy is 3 , so I think I would be looking at at least £100 if not more if I insured them. That's nearly three times my car insurance.

I insure my three on one policy and two on another. For me it's just about peace of mind granted it's not the cheapest option.

:D I have looked into insuring my piggies too. I certainly would if I only had two or four, but I have eight. Like @tallulahmay says, insuring eight would just cost too much. You'd think that, with the growing popularity of piggies as pets, that there would be more insurance companies out there offering piggie insurance.

I have 3 on one policy (Wilbur is too old, almost wish I hadn't declared that!) and it's £30 per month with exotics direct. Touch wood I haven't claimed yet, took the policy out last October. My OH thinks it's better to put the money away then if I never need it I have a stash of cash but I wasn't very good at remembering to do this plus I like the fact that if they need a bunch of xrays or an op I'm covered.

Wonder why mine is more for 3 then ,do you think the breed matters ,they are youngish ? Two texel and one swiss teddy

:D @tallulahmay I would not have thought that the breeds of your piggies would have made much difference to the price of your policy. What does it say on the Exotics Direct website?

I don't know, that is odd, I did do it over the phone as the website was having issues when I did it, I have two short haired and one texel, ages 2-5?

Is your policy for £2000 per pig ,or £2000 for all 3 ,that could be the difference, does the policy pay for any health issues ,do you have to claim the money back or do the insurance pay the vet?

I claim the money back from the insurance but you can have the vets claim the insurance also, 2000 for all Three is the arrangement I have. The insurance have a 5 day turn around, so your never waiting long.

Okay thanks , that's why it was more expensive , as I was looking at the 2000 per pig quote.

Mine was only 23 ish and obviously a premium so now i feel quite lucky! Probably the fact mine are young too....just a shame only one realistic provider so no competition! Think I will cover for piece of mind though.

my policy is £2,000 for all the pigs that are on the policy . I had 3 on one policy but recently lost my boar , Max .

You pay the same amount per pig - the premiums have gone up this year - it used to be £7.50 per pig and I think it is now £14.50 per pig - if you have 3 on the policy it only covers you for £2000 between all the pigs - so you are better off having 3 separate policies that cover each pig up to £2000 - it is no more expensive - if you have all 3 on one policy and 2 or 3 of them get sick you could be on to a looser,as potentially you might need more than £2000 - when I spoke to them about renewing in October I asked why the premiums had practically doubled - they said it is because they have far more claims nowadays than they used to and because there are more treatments available for small furries - my vet says she used to pay about a fiver for her pigs when the insurance first came out.

They will allow you to increase the cover I queried this also aslong as they don't have anything longterm. My other policy I have two pig's on and they share the 2000. Thankfully I've never needed more than that.
