At the vets now..I'm coming down with a bug my wifes just had..i can feel it👎😔

We are trying her on marbocyl antiobiotic. See if that works👍 i have a feeling ive just annoyed my vet but i wasnt leaving until i could try something else.

He took a urine sample out back. Came back tiny bit of blood but no other concerns. Also checked teeth and they are all very good.

Why do you think you've annoyed him? I wouldn't worry.

I hope that the new antibiotic works. We could never got rid of the blood (sometimes, there was quite a bit, sometimes a tiny trace) hence why it was sent off for cultures.

Because whatever he said i had an answer . He said she could have gone off the hay. But i said no ive tried loads of different brands and types. And when i said can i try another biotic. He sort of seemed like he knew it wasnt going to work..maybe i shouldnt have bothered going to the vet. I'm starting to look like a maniac who bubble wraps his kids.

Anyway the tablets i have now i have to break in half and syringe feed.

I have also asked how long is the absolute minimum i cant pair burnie and dot up. And he said 4-6 weeks. And i would be extremely unlucky to have a pregnancy at 4 weeks. Which is next friday.

You sound like me! I suffer from extreme anxiety which thankfully my vet is aware of. A!though I went through it all with Emma, when Ellen started she had to convince me not to go for a second ultrasound scan reassuring me that once was enough. I think my vet must think I'm mad!

Oh no, I know it's hard please leave it for the full 6 weeks. @Wiebke has a piggy who is proof that boars (it wasn't one of her own) can get females pregnant at 5 weeks post neuter

I will leave it the full length. Yea i have anxiety badly and when i was a kid i was seen to have probably aspergers. But i dont care if i have or not. I just felt bad, because my vet has obviously studied for years and is top of his game, but on the other hand its hard because I'm worried about my pig haha

So sorry for the problems you're facing with Dot :( it's reassuring that she's not losing weight, she may just well be needing a buddy... how long left now until your male piggy can go with her? After Honey lost her sister although she didn't go off her food she was a different pig in terms of activity, and Willow gave her a new lease of life. Ive never dealt with IC... don't even know what it involves to be totally honest, but I wish you all the best with the care of Dot and I'm sure she'll be just fine especially as you're on it with the care and veterinary attention 😊

Thanks, 2 weeks to go. I will be waiting the full time 👍 lovely comment

It's horrible being so anxious isn't it :( I know what you mean, I often feel awful to my vet. I trust her completely and have been seeing her with guinea pigs for years but I can't help questioning her. Like I say though, she knows about my anxiety so I hope she doesn't get offended. But we can't help loving our pets

I know Simon well and he certainly wouldn't have been annoyed. I can think of plenty of vets who would've been, but Simon isn't like that. He understands that people are worried about their pets and tries hard to reassure them.
Ok thats nice to ķnow. I just dont want to waste his time worrying. Its probably just in my head.

Hi! Please have a look at the little baby in my avatar picture, Tegan. She is the unplanned daughter of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post-op boar (not one of mine) and has just celebrated her 7th birthday. It does really happen, and because it is statistics, it can happen to anybody! Tegan is by no means the only one I have ever heard of where it really happened as late as that.

Why go through the stress of a neutering operation and then spoil everything with a 1:10 risk of a pregnancy (which is roughly the chance of a pregnancy after 4 weeks). Personally I find the risk still too high, especially when you couple it with the risk that in the best case every fifth pregnancy and birth goes horribly wrong (and the risk is going up the older a sow is).
If you suffer from anxiety, then please consider carefully whether it isn't worth waiting another two weeks or suffer through a full 10 weeks of fretting over your sow in case she has got pregnant because of your impatience. I know from my own experiences how hard the wait is, but from my years on this forum, I also know that the consequences of not waiting can be much, much worse!

Please take a deep breath re. IC and try not to overquack because there is not a lot you can do about it but ease the symptoms. it is always harder to sit back when you have a tendency for anxiety and obsessing.
If Simon says a piggy doesn't need a scan, then it really doesn't need it. His fingers are as sensitive as any scan, and he can immediately feel whether something is wrong or not with a bladder. ;)

. Sorry, I posted the wrong link above.... I meant to post this one

Thankyou wiebke. I totally understand about the waiting the 6 weeks. And i definitly will be waiting. Ive cheered up a bit now, because when i put dot back in her cage, Burnie greeted her at the bars and dot jumped on her carrot house to sniff him.😍

I will see if this antibiotic will help. It probably isnt even bacterial. But incase

I feel guilty as I put Emma through scans and xrays even though my vet promised and tried to assure me that she didn’t have stones or reproductive problems :( She did put her foot down though at times to safe Emma from any stress and to save me throwing money away. I trusted her instincts more with history repeated itself with Ellen

Dot has picked back up again lol 🙄

Just wait a few weeks and il be stressing again. But on a serious note i now know that she has gone up and down twice. So it is probably just flare ups. Maybe something I'm feeding isnt helping her

Great news that she's feeling better. Now try and enjoy your piggies! Here at TEAS, I don't look too far ahead, as dealing with poorly piggies on a daily basis could really bring me down. I take the view, that if all is good today, then there is lots to smile about!

Thankyou yep i will, dont fix what isnt broken someone said to me. I do feel like i used to enjoy my animals more when i first had them, back when i first had my first pigs. I find the more i know the more things turn into a bit of a job. I need to go back to basics and just chill.

I'm going to stop trying to tweak things around and stick to 80% hay , 1 tbs spoon nugget, and there veg. Job done and let nature do the rest haha.

Its funny how i never ever worried about sky my pig who lived to 7 until he got old. He went through his whole life problem free until he was near the end
