The trouble is there are now so many options, opinions and treatments. Back in the sixties, you had a pet piggie, if it got poorly it usually died. You were often unaware is was even poorly. It is great now that we can successfully treat our pets, but it comes with a lot more decisions and worries which of course loving our pets causes us plenty of stress and heartache x

Thankyou yep i will, dont fix what isnt broken someone said to me. I do feel like i used to enjoy my animals more when i first had them, back when i first had my first pigs. I find the more i know the more things turn into a bit of a job.

Take a step back! Store the knowledge you've gained, in case you need it, but stay chilled out and enjoy your pets. Also, animals pick up on our emotions, which can be stressful for them too.

So true, il just have to believe you about the 60's lol 😉. But seriously it was like it in the late 80's - 90's with my rabbits

Yes, it was not that good in 80’s or 90’s for piggies really, thinking back! I used to get one of my son’s gerbils teeth clipped once a month which cost £4, which I thought was rather expensive lol 😆

Ive never had to get my gerbils teeth clipped ( once for a broken one) £4 that would be a great deal now though

Do gerbils teeth even need clipping 🧐
Not if you provide enough loo roll tubes and wooden objects. Simon does it though if you ever need it doing. I had a gerbil with a broken tooth and he clipped them even

Oh yes, my tank is full of wood and cardboard :)
They recycle most of my cardboard. Well kind of, they shred it. I have a pair of males called Casper and a shadow. One is white with red eyes and the other is slate. They are always together. Casper was viscous when i got him, but now he is very friendly.

And i have a single female called abbi. Shes the one found in abington park northampton. I would like to bond her with another female but you have to split cage method it

Yep, the vet said he had a misaligned jaw, we had two, one was fine and the other had problem with one incisor that grew wonky so the vet would clip it regularly to the height of the other one. He had plenty of wood and loo to chew, it was just one of those things. He lived to a good age and was a lovely happy little chap

I have 3 boys called Derek, Albert and Rodney. Derek is slate coloured, Albert is brown and white and Rodney is white with pink eyes. We ended up with 3 because there were 5 in the cage I know that most people prefer to have two so we took 3 leaving two behind. We once had 5 brothers but we think there was something genetically wrong with them because 3 got scent gland tumours and they all died within the space of two years :( Percy was the last remaining one but he didn't live long by himself

Ive had one with a scent gland tumour. I kicked myself a bit because a photo i took a few months before i could see it. Didnt realise before

Yea we got fudges removed but it came back with 2 more lumps

I’m sorry they came back :( One pf the 5 brothers developed bad breathing problems and stopped eating. He’s the one I took to the vet where people in the waiting room looked at me like I’d fallen off a Christmas tree. Vet said it was either a uri or a tumour but wanted to try him on antibiotics before attempting an X-ray. Sadly he died a couple days later :(

Ive had 3 go from sudden breathing problems, pneumonia i think, had clicking noses

That’s wonderful news :) My Ellen’s latest urine sample came back clear yesterday too
Glad to hear it😊the only bad thing, if it is marbocyl working, does that mean she had an infection? It could be the cystease, I'm not going to worry , she is still peeing pink but shes fine

Yes she could have had an infection but only a urine sample would have told you that. However, antibiotics can work for a short period but them the symptoms come back once the antibiotics stop. That’s what kept Happening to Emma and Ellen which is what contributed to the IC diagnosis

Just to clarify.. The intention of a course of antibiotics is to clear an infection (it's one of the reasons healthcare workers are so insistant people finish a whole course).

@Skypipdot ... You have a good vet. If your guinea pig still has symptoms after this course of antibiotics, your vet will be able to advise on the next step.

Oh yes, I understand this. Ellen’s last urine sample showed infection in which case she has just completed a course of antibiotics. But she’s also had blood with no infection hense an IC flare

... And I appreciate it's a worrying time for anyone going through this.

My boar Reuben had IC for 2 years before it cleared. It's very distressing to see blood in urine... My vet explained it was Sterile IC..... Therefore, antibiotics wouldn't work.

You Wasnt replying to me but maybe its the cystease working
I'm replying to you too @Skypipdot . That's the beauty of a forum.... we share information.

I'm afraid you don't get instant answers for bladder problems so... please continue with medication and listen to your vet.

My IC boar is still on cystophan and metacam and I am looking forward to his next review.
