Meet Miss Maude (was Ms piggy!).
On a Guinea pig FB group I saw that someone was looking for a home for their 4 year old Rex. I changed my mind at first as I’d only just lost Mary and Lottie.
But a month on and I was ready to open my heart again :luv:
So today I drove just over an hour to meet half way with her owner.
She messaged me before we left to say her eye was weeping and sent me a photo. I could tell that she possibly had Ectropion. She said her eye has always looked like that but never been watery before.
I decided to go ahead of course!
She’s currently settling in, I haven’t seen her talk to the others through the bars yet but I’m sure she will when she’s ready. She lost her friend a few months ago so has been on her own a while. I'm Hoping to bond her with Lion and Emily, Emily was a little quiet after Lotties passing, she’s happy again now but thought she would like a female friend again.
I’ve just had a good look at her eye, her eye it’s self looks clear and fine but I’m quite sure I can see a small flat piece of hay under the fleshy bit, it’s proving impossible to lift out! Looks like a vet trip already 😂 Though will have to wait until tomorrow or Tuesday.
I think I’ve decided to call her Maude. My Nans name, my mums, (Mary) mum!

Miss Maud is a beauty, looking forward to seeing her settle into her new home with you and her new piggie family😍

Welcome to the forum Miss Maude. You’ve landed a lovely home where you will be spoilt. Hope you eye clears quickly and looking forward to seeing more photos and learn how you’re settling in 😁

Welcome Ms Maude

You are luscious!

I hope that your new can sort out your eye. Entropion is an inwards turned eyelid where the lashes scratch the eye surface (it is not all that uncommon in newborns and fairly easy to put right for a vet) but I haven't heard of ectropion?

Oh Miss Maude what a wonderful home you have landed in! It's funny how our heart always tells us when it's time for a new piggy 💖

Hi Wiebke,
My Mary ( Rex) who recently passed had Entropion with the bottom eyelid turning inwards, it was closely monitored by me and the vet.
I did a quick Google search to see what Maudes fleshy eye could be, Ectropion is the best I can come up with so far. It’s the opposite of Entropion. Ectropion is where the eyelid turns outwards, rather than in. However it’s likely it’s not that as it’s not her eyelid, more an inner flesh that’s protruding out. Her previous owner said she’s always had a funny looking eye so atleast I know it’s not something new. There is however a foreign object in there which I will take her to my local vet tomorrow to help remove. It’s unlikely they will know anything about her fleshy eye so I will book her into the exotic at his next availablility, which is at least a months wait at the moment.
I’ll try and get a better photo tonight so you can see what you think.

It rather looks to me like something with the conjunctiva is wrong? But the picture is unfortunately too fuzzy.
a lower eyelid falling away is usually at the back end, not uncommon in older piggies (i have and have had a few of them) and generally known as fatty eye - but it looks different. A watery eye generally points to an irritation of some sort in the eye or conjuctiva. All the best!

Thanks everyone! She’s settling in well and adapting to life indoors. She’s a little shy so far but once she feels safe she’s going to be wheeeeking up at the bars in no time!
She’s off to the local vet tomorrow to get her eye looked at.
Here she is just a moment ago (I only got her out to check her eye).
