Hello

I have three female guinea pigs in a 30inchX70inch set up I was wondering if this set up was big enough? I see on some websites it says yes some say no? I've noticed after adding the 4th there has been a bit more bar chewing. But I do plan on getting more CC grids and making my the open floor space in my room a big cc grid cage where I'd let them out daily. Just not something I can do until after January due to cost.

That is approx 76 cm x 177cm. So, it is big enough. Three sows need a 5x2 c&c which measures 77cm x 180cm.

Then no it’s not big enough.

you need a 6x2 c&c which measures approx 220cm x 77cm.

i understand at the moment I can't upgrade because I didn't make a normal CC gride cage it's a wooden/cc cage but I will make sure to give a lot of floor space since it's on the small size

You will need to give them more space as soon as you can.
Giving them floor time is great but it won’t make up for the fact that their cage is too small once they are shut into it.

THE CAGE IS ABOUT 18 SQ FT MOST SITES SAY THAT IT'S ENOUGH SPACE SO I DON'T THINK IT'S THAT BAD BUT I'LL DEF UPGRADE SOON

Please don’t type in capitals.
177cm x 76cm (which is the conversion from 30 inches x 70 inches) when converted makes approx 14 sq ft so upgrading when you can would benefit them.
As I say the recommended size for four sows would be a 6x2 c&c which measures 220cm x 77cm.

13 is the minimum for 4 pigs though ....

your cage effectively is a 5x2 c&c cage which is only big enough for three piggies. Four piggies need a 6x2 c&c so
your piggies would benefit from having a bit more space when you can give it to them

Cage Size Guide

I'll go ahead and just leave this thread here so that you can read up and be better informed. The forum says that 12ft is fine for 3 pigs and add 2 more ft for piggies :) meaning that my 34 inchX70 cage is big enough thanks for your concern but next time be better informed so you don't lie to others

I haven’t lied at all.
you said your piggies are bar chewing since you added the fourth. This can be potentially because they feel a bit tight.
your cage effectively measures a 5x2 (77 x 180 is the exact measurement of a 5x2) which is big enough for three. as I said, recommended is a 6x2 for four so they would benefit from having a bit more space added when you can.
as swissgreys also mentioned out, minimum sizes doesn’t mean it’s actually big enough in reality when individual piggy characters are in the mix

@BossHogg @Lady Kelly ? What an awful rude person, we really dont like this sort of thing here! @Piggies&buns is very well informed and also very nice and kindly volunteering her time here for free as many of us do to try and help people. I expect the admin clean up crew will be along soon...

That's really rude! We have a lot of knowledgeable people on here who volunteer their time to help people like me and you who don't know a lot and require a bit of guidance. Piggies&buns is one of these knowledgeable people here on this forum.

I think it is in fact YOU that needs to re-read the thread as it states 2x5 c&c is suitable for up to 3 sows OR 2 boars.

No disrespect, but if you don't like the answer you're given maybe ask yourself whether you should ask the question in the first place?

Also note that this is the MINIMUM. This means this is the smallest cage you can use before it becomes cruel.

PigglePuggle I thought so too - why ask for advice and just dismiss it ? I think it was a case of ‘ ask for advice but didn’t like the answer’
everyone here ....especially the experienced forum members are always extremely helpful and knowledgeable .
I’m sure you know this .....but thank you all for your free time and advice 🥰

I'm not being rude. spreading mis information is not okay. THIS forum says

1-2 guinea pigs: 2x4 ft (120x60 cm) or 8 ft square = 2x3 C&C grid cage; if you can, please consider a 2x4 grid cage instead as it is the minimum recommendation
3 guinea pigs: 2x5 ft (150x60 cm) or 10 ft square = 2x4 C&C grid cage; strongly recommended for 2 guinea pigs
4 guinea pigs 2x6 ft (180x60 cm) or 12 ft square = 2x5 C&C grid cage, recommended for 2 boars or 3 sows or 1 neutered boar/2 sows
Add 2 square feet (60x30cm) for any additional guinea pig.

Means that my 4 guinea pigs are completely content in a 16 sq ft cage.

I'm not being rude for standing up for misinformation. next time don't lie to people. and be nice.... spreading false information is no way to live

you're rude for calling me an awful person ... you know nothing about me except that i'm standing up to lies.... Next time you should be on the side of facts and evidence. Spreading false information is not good.

I'll think you'll find it's a typo? As it says 2 pigs should be in a 2x4 c&c which is 10.5 sq ft
3 pigs in a 2×5 which is 13sq ft
4 pigs need 2×6 which is 16sq ft.

Your cage isn't 16sq feet. Here I'll break it down for you.

You say the measurements are 30" by 70"
In feet that's 2.5 feet x 5.8 feet.
2.5 X 5.8 = 14.5. which is too small for 4 pigs as they need 16sq ft. Their cage has 14.5sq feet. Do you understand?

I’ve noticed a few seem to get quite rude when they hear their accommodation is undersized. Most seem to react positively with a thanks and start to make preparation. I don’t get why the need to have a bad attitude. In the end surely you want to give pigs the biggest space they can. And not just scrape by on a minimum unless you are very space limited. It’s like salary. Do you like your roles minimum salary. It’s ok to start but if there is a maximum of an increase you can be happier and more comfortable.

I think it's an angry reaction to being told they're wrong - resistance to being told to either do something or that they are in the wrong... There's no need to be so rude though - everyone here is just trying to help you help your piggies!

so sad they got all defensive like that the first step to making things better is always to accept when change is needed. although as someone who's piggy's can see the fridge from their mansion I would like to say that bar biting is not necessarily a space issue, although it definitely sounded like it in this case.

Of course it's in the best interests of the forum to ban such rude members but in a way it's a shame it came to this because now they will almost certainly ignore eveything that was said to them and keep their pigs in an uncomfortably small cage 😟 There's nothing we could have done since they refused to listen though. I can't say I'll miss them either way 🤣
