The boys were put into their new hutch today and I'm a little concerned about how they will climb onto the ramp?
It doesnt have a 'turn' if you know what I mean-the ramp goes up and ends against the hutch wall-is this how they are supposed to be?

Can you pop a photo up please...?
I can't work out what you mean... Probably me being blond... :))
x

Pigture would be good - some people put tunnels round their ramps to prevent them from falling off.

I thought a pic would be a beter way of explaining but ive never posted a pic and dont know how to!

My daughter Amy will try and do it tomorrow if shes feeling better-she was sent home from school uwell today.:(

We've just checked and Cookie has got down the ramp so heres hoping he can get back up again!

My hutch with a ramp has the hole a good six inches away from the end wall so the occupants have more space to turn round at the top. *I've also found that piggies (especially older ones) can take a while to figure out how to use a ramp. How easy they will find that arrangement I don't know I'm afraid, it may be fine once they get the hang of it. *I do love ramp tunnels, they avoid falls and make the piggies more confident to go up and down, but if you had one it would have to stop well before the top of the ramp or they would walk into the wall!

Snowball still hasnt used the ramp and Cookie has only come down it-we have to put him back up.rolleyes
I'm a bit annoyed because its defeating the purpose of them having a bigger hutch because if they only use the top its smaller than their other one-just a bit wider.:(

Hubby is going to try and do something with it, he might have to remove the ramp and make a little platform for it.I'm going to email the person who made it and ask why they make the ramp this way when its going to make it difficult for the piggies.

I'll post a picture of my ramp when I get home. My girls run up and down it all day long. ;)

That's not very well designed I agree :{
Hope your OH can fathom something out. Does the ramp have any sides as piggies are nervous of heights :(
My OH put small 'barriers' along the side and at the top and the two boys who live in this part of the pen zoom up and down like nutters :(|)
Not the best pic, we were modifying it, adding another level and widening the second level for them - piggies were sulking on the floor :( but this may give you an idea:

Just because he pigs aren't using the ramp yet doesn't mean they never will. *One of mine took a month to start using his! *I encouraged him by putting food at the other end and putting his head in the tunnel to get him started.

I got two end bits of wood at B&Q FOR 10P (where they do the free wood cutting - they were in a dump bucket to be chucked out ) - they cut it to size for me and we glued it on with no more nails to make sides - they now all go up and down it without the worry that they will slip off or knock the other one off if one is going up and one going down.

Putting sides on is a good idea and hubby would do that no problem.
I still think the fact that theres no ledge to get off the ramp at the top is going to put them off.

We had it from ebay and ive checked and they dont show a picture of the inside so I'm going to email them and explain that it wasnt made clear that the ramp is designed like that and I dont think it should be.

They dont have a returns policy so I hope its not a waste of £80.:(

ramp problem

Hi, I have a similiar problem. Only one of my four G.pigs is using the ramp. Can you buy a tunnel or do you build it? Thanks for any suggestions.

My ramp is a length of roof guttering with carpet glued in the bottom to give grip. ;)

Mine refuse to use their ramp! I've ordered a ramp from here http://www.cosycavies.co.uk/products/tunnels/

It arrived today so I'll be fixing it in tomorrow, it's gorgeous and really well made, done to the measurements of my ramp. I think it should do the trick, I don't think they like the feel of the wood ramp or feeling exposed so I'm hoping it'll do the trick! :)

Any luck yet :{
Maybe get hold of a couple of c&c grids if possible and try and make a secure ramp from them that also fits over the hutch floor ?/ An L shape ? Think it is going to have to be modified completely tbh - I'd be so annoyed after paying for something that has not had much thought go into it grrrr
Something on these lines :

I found Snowball on the bottom level this morning so I dont know whether he fell down or managed to get down.
I'm pretty sure neither of them can climb back up-must be so scary anyway because the gap is too wide for them to get off the wrap and onto the ground.

We are so worried about one of them falling down because it really looks just like theres a hole in floor.Today we have put them both upstairs and hubby has screwed a piece of wood down over the hole until tomorrow when hes going to have a look at what he could do.

I have emailed the seller explained the problem and telling them that their photo does not show the design of the ramp-they will be getting very poor feed back from me.grrrr

I'm so livid-the person who makes these hutches said that people usually state if its for guinea pigs so they make an adjustment with the ramp. They dont even state in the description that the hutches are for rabbits so how am I supposed to know that? ?/

I have told them that I am going to open a case against them because they dont state its for a rabbit, plus they state that that the hutches are made to order-how can this be when it had obviously been left outside as it arrived damp plus the metal is rusty.

Well, they have been warned!

I would definatly try and get them on this. If they do not state it is for rabbits then how are people supposed to know it needs adjusting for guinea pigs? the face it arrived in a such a state is also very bad.

Where did you get it from?

Places like ebay and amazon are usually very good about these kinds of things if you complain.

I am sorry that your hutch isn't what you thought :( I would contact eBay directly as it is your consumer rights to return a product you are not happy with! Save all emails that have gone between you and the seller. Good luck

The seller is asking for photographs of the problems to use in the resolution centre-dont really understand what they mean. They said i should have returned it but i reminded them they have a no returns policy! They asked why it took this long to complain-its only been a week! I told them i was giving the piggies chance to try and use it, when one fell i decided to complain.

I filled all the details to set a case up and would you believe it wouldnt send! So frustrating.
I will try again tomorrow.

Can you add sides and a bit of carpet to add grip? this is what i had to do with the girls hutch, i'll get pics tomorrow :).

This might be what we will try although the problem is that the ramp 'hits' the wall so the guinea pig has to do an awkward 'turn', its a platform in front of the ramp at the top thats needed instead of it going up and straight into the wall of the hutch.

I'm sure mine is the same, i'll get some pics :)

my guinea pigs have always used ramps and do get used to them. although your ramp is not very practical as it appears there is no where for them to off at the top unless they jump off at the side. I am sure something can be put together to help the piggies up and down the ramp, all the best x

Right this is mine ( i dont have any photos of before but it was just a scary looking hole rolleyes)

Mine goes up to the wall too but the piggys manage fine, they zoom up and down :).

The rail goes around the opening (top floor) and runs along side the ramp so they dont fall off.

The girls were having some outside play while the weather is a little more mild, had to snap a pigture of Peppa :))

Ergh messy sawdust roll on warm weather then its onto fleece :).
