is this redness on his feet concerning?

excuse his nails he absolutely despises having his nails done so i take off as much as i can get away with without being bitten (not even joking he’s a chewer). just doing his routine little check and trim and noticed his back feet are slightly red. the camera saturation definitely makes them look darker than they are but there is pinker spots. the little ridges in his feet have always been there btw, they’re not blisters or anything just to add! his foot also isn’t swollen, that’s Ollie’s normal foot anatomy/shape, was just a bit alerted at some redness. there’s not any scabs or crustiness or anything either, just the skin colour i was alerted to. he’s probably around 5 and a half now and i read before that their feet can get a little redder as they age because of circulation stuff but figured it was better to ask

i’m bringing him for a checkup in a few days along with my cat so i’ll of course get my vet’s opinion regardless. just wondering what you guys think. my pigs’ bedding is usually just fleeces and those bobbly bath mats but lately they’ve been getting extra hay put down to burrow in because it’s so cold. i do a full clean of all their blankets and beds about every 6 days and spot cleans between then. to add he doesn’t seem to be in any pain or anything or have any mobility issues, he’s happily back in bed gorging on some hay after his 5 minutes of nail trimming torture and a sprint around the bedroom floor

The redness can be because of being warm or being sat more (can be an indication of soreness elsewhere such as arthritis ) but I’m not seeing any broken skin or open wounds which would indicate bumblefoot.
A vet check is a good idea though

thank you! my other young little piggy had bumblefoot back in may which was healing up nicely and being treated, he was doing great and then just suddenly died in his sleep. been extra alarmed by any foot inflammation since then even though that little guy obviously had some other stuff going on, he had a recurring abscess, was pretty small for his age and had very visible osseous metaplasia since he was even 1-2 which from what i understand is quite rare in young pigs :(

considering Ollie’s age being close to 5 1/2 at least i have been considering his joints and if he might have a bit of arthritis so had already been planning to get him a checkup. Ollie’s definitely been in bed and sat a good bit more atm along with his cagemate because our boiler is broken and we have no central heating atm so they’re definitely cosying up in bed more

@Piggies&buns has given you great advice and I’d definitely get a Vet to check his feet.
My skinny pig Freddy has those pink/red soles on his back feet.
He had it on both feet when I adopted him from Wood Green animal charity one year ago and was being treated with F10 ointment.
Despite Vet advice and treatment they haven’t improved
I apply nightly F10 ointment as per my Vet, and I just check them each time
He doesn’t lie down ever just squats to sleep and likes to climb onto a hay pile and we think that might contribute to it as well but he’s so happy jumping onto the hay and I don’t want to stop that. So we’re just monitoring him - he’s healthy and happy
I have another piggy Geoff who loves burrowing into the hay pile and is nearly 6 - i was advised during a Vet check to put him on Johnsons4Joints nightly to keep him mobile and it really works so you could ask about that .
( Geoff had impaction that I needed to clean away every other day but now his mobility has improved that rarely occurs)
Good luck and let us know how you get on

thank you for all the advice and i’m so glad your pigs are doing well! will definitely ask about supplements too. Ollie’s still standing constantly against his grids to beg and i’m just thinking mind your legs 😂 sit down

I hope his feet will be ok.
thank you, he has the vet tomorrow but his feet actually do look normal now! but was intending on getting him a checkup anyway because he’s about 5 so he’s still going even though he’s going to be very mad about it 😂

Ah I think it’s a good idea - I had my 5 year old Geoff checked earlier this year
He has stiffness in some of his legs so my Vet recommended Johnsons4joints and he moving about really well now
He still runs for veggies 🥰 altho he naps more ❤️

Ollie had a vet trip with my cat Miss Keisha who has some itchy ears, his feet are completely fine. she said the skin is lovely and smooth and she doesn’t see any signs of irritation. also gave him a good checkover, heart and lungs sound great, his coat is in great condition and she doesn’t think he has any arthritis or stiffness at all. when she was palpating his legs and his bum/lower spine he didn’t show any signs of discomfort apart from just being irritated with being touched full stop lol. he does have a broken lower tooth though! so have to keep an eye to make sure the other grinds down properly. he had a broken tooth a few years ago too in a spat with the cage bars 🙄 he’s the only piggy i’ve ever had that’s broken a tooth not once but twice now
