Hi.
Just wondering if anyone has ever gone to vets4pets as I'm thinking of bringing my guinea pig there if need be.
just wondering if they are competent guinea pig vets or if they just specialize in cats and dogs etc.
If anyone can more specifically tell me of their experience at the old Kent road one in london would be awesome!
thanks.

I’ve nevr visited that branch unfortunately but we use the Stafford branch for all our pets and the piggies in the rescue and they’re always brilliant; I suppose it varies from branch to branch though as all the vets are different. One of the vets at our branch luckily is a small animal specialist!
Have you had a look at some reviews on google? There may be something there, otherwise I guess just give them a go and see what you think! :)

It very much depends on the quality of the vets employed; they are usually general vets and will prescribe only licensed medication, which can be limited when it comes to more serious health issues. My experience with our local no frills chain ranges from one old school vet with not the first idea about guinea pigs to dealing with a very competent general vet who has saved Nosgan's eye on the weekend before I could get him to my specialist vet in Northampton to continue treatment.

Our local branch has a guy that is very highly regarded in rabbit circles but also has a strong interest in piggies. So whilst he isn't in specialist vet category for gps he is very knowledgeable and I'm happy with him.

My usual vet is a vets4pets and they are very interested in small animals so tend to be very good. It also means I can trust them to say when something falls outside of their ability. Vets4pets tend to have staff profiles on the website so take a read of the vets at that practice and it should say if anyone has exotics or small animal qualifications or a particular interest in them

It depends on the individual vets in the practice- some will have guinea pig experience, others will not. It's best to talk to them before you need them to determine what their level of knowledge is with guinea pigs. Ask how often they see them, what meds they commonly prescribe, how many dental procedures they routinely perform, etc.
