It’s getting hot! Are you ready? 🥵

Eek, Herman has a dental(vet) appointment at lunchtime I have been keeping my fingers crossed for a cold day. The weather doesn’t seem to have heard me, although it’s predicted to stay a little cooler than yesterday.
It’s lovely and cool here, right now at 5amish.
We are all over this extra hot weather. As a friend of mine says “It can do one!”
Hope everyone’s ok. 💙
I hope he copes OK ❤️🙏 I'm sure his mom will take good care of him ❤️🐾

Good luck at the vet's!

All piggies still there despite the high humidity and are currently tucking into some rather fast disappearing grass from the lawn as their early morning snack before the sun hits the windows yet again. The oldies had extra fridge cooled snugglesafes (which they like better than freezer elements), so I kept exchanging and rotating them every few hours.

By keeping our sheets in front of the big glass windows regularly dampened, we got to 26 C in our dual aspect lounge by yesterday evening (up from 22 C in the morning) with an extra fan towards the cages, as compared to the rise of 15 C outside to 33/34 C - considering we have the sun on the lounge directly from 7 am in the morning until after 8 pm in the evening.

However, both hub and I had to take 'time out' turns with the old second-hand air conditioning unit in his bedroom during the day. I can deal with dry heat but not at all once the humidity builds up in the house and there is hardly any air movement overnight; and of course I want avoid more heat exhaustion/stroke.
Living with terminal cancer means that my fairly low inherited threshold level has come down even further and that I am now living with a noticeably frailer body that is at a higher risk of overheating. I am currently still camping on the kitchen floor - where it is coolest at night - since my bedroom is no longer cooling down enough. My shingles has flared up again, which is not helping with the humid heat and I feel rather exhausted and drained by now. :(

But I have got the lounge temp back down to 21 C overnight again by opening all possible windows during the coolest down hours with some slightly fresher nights to come; so with this being a slightly fresher day 'only' going up to 30 C, I hope that both hairy and furry inhabitants can hang on in there before the next batch of 30+ C days is hitting next week. As long as I can keep the daily temperature swing in the lounge small and the rise throughout a heatwave gradual, the piggies have a chance to adapt and to cope. :(

Anyway, it is 7 am and the sun is hitting the big glassy garden front, so here we go for another hot day in amber heat warning conditions... :(

Gosh, hope you’re all ok. It’s been little cooler here today, I think the cooler night definitely helped.

Thank you all for wishing Herman luck at the vets.

Herman was a trooper, I took our big carrier, so he had more space, an ice pod & blasted the aircon.
I covered the car while it was parked at the vets to give us a cool start on leaving.

Bumped into @YvonneBlue in the car park, hope your vet trip went well & you had safe drive home.

Good luck to Herman's dental appointment.

Weibke I hope you are coping with the heat.wish you all the best.

Thank you.

It's only 24 C in our lounge tonight (up from 21 C at 7 am) and a bit less humid than yesterday - which was a killer - but exhaustion from the extreme conditions has caught up with me today and I have spent most of the day in bed (some of it with the old air con) with only the necessary bed sheet dampening in order to provide a cool layer of air and as little direct sun on the larger windows as possible.

It won't be as quite as hot in the coming days but neither will the brickwork, especially on the street side be able to cool down as temperatures remain mostly around the border to the local heat day line. Flushing out the humidity that is building up inside the house - especially the lounge with a dozen piggies all breathing - relies on cooler nights and stronger breezes... :(

It was lovely to see you. Hope that you had a good journey home.x

We've just had a massive thunderstorm, with pelting rain. Glad to be indoors during it. Has cooled the air a bit. And I don't need to water the garden this evening.
I know my dad is praying for rain lol. He hates watering his garden. But loves the flowers. Love/hate relationship.

Second BIG heat wave of the year 🥵🥵🥵
39° tomorrow, 40° on Tuesday and Wednesday, 38° on Thursday.
Then the temperatures should drop to 30°.
Unfortunately my flat is pretty warm already because we have had a few days with temperatures up to 37 or 38° last week.
I love summer but these temperatures are no fun at all.

Thinking of you, sounds like you have some tricky days ahead. 🔥

We are predicted 32C today.
I am up early gathering cold air.

We've had some very heavy showers this afternoon (I got caught in them twice, soon dried out again though!). The water butts are full again which I'm very pleased about! Sadly it's very muggy again tonight, was hoping it would be cooler after the rain.

Ooh, I've got rain envy 💚 It's strange boom and bust weather but having storage must help alot 👍

It often is more mucky after rain but I've got rain envy as well.

After two days with heat records and another night with temperatures above 25°C, I hope that we will make it until Friday when the temperature should give us a short break.
Yesterday we had a fire in the woodland near the Danube but luckily it didn't get out of control even though it did destroy quite a bit quickly.
The Danube and ground water is so low that some communities have to save water. Very unusual for Austria because we usually have/had enough water.

Anyone else melting?
Up early slightly on purpose to get any cold air there is, & ‘caus I am struggling to sleep. We only had the skylights open last night it was sooo hot still & a warm breeze.

I have put a thermometer outside & it’s currently saying it’s 18C at 5:30am. 🥵
(By the pigs is at 23.8.)

We “camped” downstairs with the piggies last night. They actually were quiet most of the night, which is unusual.

Hurry up colder weather, I am exhausted.

Hope everyone & everypig is coping.
Especially those of you in hotter places.

London was in the 30s for most of yesterday 🥵 Fortunately it is dry enough to use a wet bath towel in front of a fan for some relief 😮‍💨. The piggies are surrounded by ice bottles, clinging to them like survivors from the Titanic 🧊🧊 Today might be the last excessively hot day. Perhaps there will be a bit of rain next week, and it should be cooler 🪭

We are a bit cooler today but the house was like an oven last night. I tried to sleep with the windows open but I got woken every 10-15 minutes by a car going past so gave up and closed them in the end. We are getting smoke from the Welsh fires so having to be careful with the windows open, just a slight smell today so far. I'm a bit concerned for the piggies as I've had a sore throat for 3 days and am wondering if the smoke is the cause, dread to think what it's like for the poor people living close to the fires.
