Hi!
Lice are small pale things crawling through a guinea pig's coat. Guinea pig mites, both mange mites, which burrow their eggs painfully in the skin and can kill and the more harmless hay/fur mites, which fix their tiny dark egg cases to the hairs at the bottom end are invisible.
Please do not treat on spec with low dosed broad spectrum shop products that will only temporarily suppress the immune system. If in any doubt, please see a vet.
Also be aware that fungal infections can look very similar to a mites attack in the early stages, but will require completely different treatment. Getting that wrong can lead to major suffering and even death.
If your newly bought guinea pigs come down with parasites, ringworm (fungal infection) or illness (typically respiratory infection) within 2-3 weeks of sale, you can reclaim any vet cost from the pet shop if you present the vet bill together with the sales receipt. Exposure and infection has in this case happened at the shop. you are within your customer rights, as you have been in effect sold defective ware.
