Gwenivere is covered in tiny brown lice. I think they are static lice, they don't appear to be running anywhere or wriggling, just clinging to her hair. The last batch of hay was pretty yellow/brown and generally quite low quality, so I suspect she has 'caught' the lice from the hay sometime in the past week. The other pigs appear okay, but all will be treated anyhow. The last of the crappy hay is now gone, it's back to green, fresh Meadow once again along with Readigrass and Alfalfa King (the Oat, Wheat and Barley variety) - so hopefully they won't get reinfested!

I've not dealt with lice before, but am aware that Lice 'n' Easy from GG, or Fleaordie, are the best shampoos for this. As luck would have it, I have neither to hand, and it would be at least 2 days before anything I order online arrives. Is there anything else that would work, or are these two the only ones that really do a good job with getting rid of lice?

I have only ever used lice n easy so cant advise there. I know Johnsons do a shampoo for lice and pets at home sell it. Perhaps you could look up the ingredients online? I imagine it will be harsher on the skin?

Waiting a couple of days isnt the end of the world though as you will be treating them all anyway-good luck!

I picked up a pig from a rescue centre many years ago and it was covered in running lice. That's the only time I've ever experienced them. The only thing I had in stock was the Johnsons shampoo which you can get from pet shops. I did it and it worked a treat.

Lice N Easy is what I use too and also I brush them out when hair is dry. It can get rid of the hatched ones. Had a huge problem with Lice last year here changed my hay supplier and thankfully they haven't came back! Poor milo had them all in his coronet! :(

Try a human head-lice shampoo, preferably one which is organic based.

No advice sorry but hope the problem is sorted out soon for Gwenivere (and you) :)

Ah yes, I now remember that I have used Lyclear Sprayaway for children. It smells of licorice! Get it from any pharmacy. It was a Peter Gurney tip. It takes away the lice and the eggs too. Two shampoos a few days apart I think.

If you can't get any shampoo until the other one arrives then brushing will help as it breaks lice legs and will hopefully remove some of the lice aswell

Another possibilty is hair condtioner, the lice cannot hold onto the hair and can be brushed out.
