Long week

Just two days after Pigeon's vet visit.. it's back to the vet we go for Dolly, as she is showing signs of a UTI again. This has been one long, expensive, stressful week!😪

I hope they are feeling better soon. 🤞🏻

Sorry about the vet bills 😬

HUGS

I am so sorry. Illnesses are unfortunately like London buses: they come in clusters. :(

Well this couldn't have gone any worse!.. Dolly is set to have surgery next Friday to remove both a bladder stone and ovarian cysts.. so unbelievably stressed out. 😭😖

BIG HUGS

A big information is always very daunting. I am so sorry that Dolly has both.

Here are our pre- and post-op care tips so you know what you can do:

With a bladder stone, you my want to review your diet. Unfortunately, whether you are a little too high or too low outside the soft spot in the diet, it can led to problems. The knotty part is that this soft spot is a bit different for everbody. The USA is mainly a soft water country whereas the UK is mainly a hard water country so you have that bit more leeway re. calcium. You also have to factor in the calcium in all pellets, added calcium or not. That is why there is not an dieal diet for everybody. It would be really nice...

All the best. We are for you, morally as well as with practical advice.

My house is on well water, which I guess is pretty high in calcium? I would've never known that 😩 Would using bottled water be better from here on out?

You will have to test your water for its hardness with a test kit that is pretty easily available online or google for your water hardness for your next town. It is always useful to know, including for washing machines/soap quantities and water appliance care (taps, shower heads, kettles, sprinklers etc.) ;)

Well water depends on the ground through which it passes just as reservoir water. Since the UK is largely lime stone, so it has hard water, irrespective of whether you have your own well or is comes from a distance. Granite etc. are mainly soft water. ;)

Can I just ask I live in Wiltshire which has very hard water. We have a water softener in the house but I don’t use that water for the piggies as I thought it would be too salty? So I use my hard water tap for the piggies and use a filter jug? Any advice on water jugs or using softened water? @Wiebke ?

Day of surgery, I'm relieved to announce it went well and Dolly's back home. They were unfortunately unable to perform a spay because the removing of the bladder stone took longer than expected, so she still has those ovarian cysts, although they were able to remove a lipoma mass found inside her. It's unfortunate that the ovarian cysts will still be a problem, but I'm just so so happy she made it through surgery. But I know that's only half the battle, and recovery is another thing I'm extremely anxious about, especially when handling her to give her her medicine 🙁

Glad Dolly is home and the surgery went well. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. ❤️

Glad surgery went well.
Hoping for a speedy recovery for Dolly.
Look after yourself too. Caring for a post op piggy is tiring

Wishing her speedy recovery ❤️
