Hehe I think it makes her extra cute xD! She's just yawned and stretched a few times on me there. Still keeping her nice and toasty. What would you say for how long meds have to be given apart from each other? 6 hours? X
I'd say 12 hours apart if it's two doses :)

That video was really good, you have an excellent patient!
Tried that method but, no dice from Betty :/ have to resort to wrapping her in a tea towel and basically the two of us holding her head :( she gets so stressed out! Her breathing escalates and she sounds all congested and mucous-y :( I feel so sorry for her. She's still eating and drinking - plus extra fluids from Veggies and syringe. So just hoping she springs back to her old self soon. She's still got plenty of fight and a good set of lungs on her despite being ill! X

Celeste is very patient with anything like that despite her nerves! If you're using a helper to get her meds into her use the same method of putting it in sideways and get your helper to hold her in the same way shown in the vid - just be quite swift in getting it to her back teeth so shes chewing on it and if its a small dose you can just dispense the lot into her cheek.

My guinea pig Sheamus (the little boy in my forum pic) was also adopted and has URI's and ear infections, the first time he was ill he had both together, they were just treating him for an ear infection at first and had him on metacam which didn't help (was making him sleep all of the time) I noticed he wasn't picking up and thought it was a URI, he was taken back and I was right, it was a URI as well as an ear infection, anyway I held Sheamus while my son gave him his meds, water and food, we did have to wrap him but that was to stop the fluids and food going down his fur. The other times he was ill weren't nearly as bad. It was heart breaking but he's ok as you can see in the pic and cheeky boy :)

I hope your guinea pig gets better soon! It took around two - three weeks for Sheamus to get better.

I thought Metacam was pain relief or is it just Anti-Inflams? Should I try syringe feeding her too? She's hardly touching her nougats :/ I'm going to have to buy new scales tomorrow too, our ones have broken! I don't want her loosing any more weight! X

Noooope! Lol she hates syringes being anywhere near her :/ she knows as well even before we've produced them, what's going to happen! She's clever...

Oh that's a shame, my boy loves metacam! Runs off with the syringe, so I used to con him with that and then give him the other medicine instead ;)

Are you managing to get her meds down her ok? If you find you need to syringe feed her I can do another vid with my super wriggly pig to show how I would get syringe feed into him, if it would be helpful!

Are you doing it on your own or can someone help you syringe feed the meds, food and water? It's much easier with two people.

Yeah i have my other half to help me but, he's still not awake yet after being unwell himself so I don't know what to do! Could i try and give the meds in the syringed food?
I think she's deteriorated since yesterday :( how long does it usually take before you see a difference? She's been on her meds since Tues.

You're going to need to get tough - make it quick, hold her head still with mouth open and head tilted upwards, syringe in (no need to be precise about it) and dispense meds. Have her sat on your lap, bum towards you so theres not much space for her to back away from it. Have you weighed her?

No, I need to go out and get new scales today. She gets herself fully worked up about it and we just have to be kind of forceful in the end which is horrible :( it doesn't seem to be making that much of a difference even so I feel even worse!

I'm afraid you do have to be forceful! Shes got to take her meds, and shes got to have food down her, so its all tough love while they're poorly sometimes. Top tips would be to have her on your lap so she has very little running away room, and to make it quick - be very firm, and the more often you do it the easier it will be to do it ine one swift movement. If you are concerned about deterioration I would visit the vets again with her.

I agree, if you feel she's deteriorating then a vet visit is needed. However at the same time, as said above, you've got to be forceful. If I wasn't forceful my boy would have never made it this far. X

I was going to phone them today and see if they can suggest anything else to help. I think getting more food and fluids into her should help perk her up. I noticed she didn't finish her veggies or hay last night compared to the other 3 nights :/ x

Shes probably feeling a bit sorry for herself then, in which case its good idea to contact the vets and ask what is best to do. I suspect more food and fluids being given to her may help her through but a professional opinion is a much better course of action. They may allow you to take her in to get a vet nurse to show you how best to syringe feed as well.

^ that would be good, maybe they could help with the syrine feeding, show you how to do it :)

Did they ever give any diuretics?

Got an appointment at 12.30 with vet nurse. Will ask about diuretics as well and just explain. Her breathing hasn't eased up :( poor wee woman! I'm such a rollercoaster of emotions!

Great to hear, the vet nurse should be able to show you how to syringe feed your wriggly piggy properly :) Don't panic too much over it - we've all been there with a sick piggy and having to learn these things on the go, its not easy to start with! You're doing all the right things and shes getting the best care possible.

Hope all goes ok and they give you the diuretics, they really can be a life saver.

Well, kinda went how I expected! Vet Nurse was the one who saw her on Monday and could confirm that she's gotten worse since then :( have come home with Critical Care and Baytril to give to her too. And Betty has been given until Saturday to make an improvement :( not saying that that's definitely what's going to happen on Saturday but, because she's not reacting to the treatment I'm worried when it crosses the line from caring to cruel to keep her alive if you understand? She's still got some of her personality there but, she's so unwell it's almost too unwell !

Just finished giving her all her meds and she's tucking into her nuggets and hay...! Fingers crossed this is the start of her recovery...
Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and help :) x

You're doing great - hang in there little piggy! What meds was she on before? I'm guessing that after her appointment today her list of meds is now Metacam (painkiller/anti-inflammatory), Baytril (antibiotic) and also some food in the form of critical care.

Did you ask about a diuretic?
