Hi,

Please advise what good guinea pig breeders are in London or near it (accessible by public transport).

I am looking for a young male guinea pig to bond with an older male guinea pig that lost its brother. My senior pig is 6 years old but full of life. I don’t want him to be lonely. And I know that bonding two male guinea pigs is not an easy thing and I am ready to take on this challenge.

Would love to get a teddy bear pig or another very chilled piglet.

Aristotle (my senior pig) is on the front of the photo. Piglet at the back is the one we lost this week due to liver infection after CJ Hall Vets tried to save him for a week, but pig could not make it due to an old age (6 years).

Plato was a really sweet pig and not dominant one. I am hoping to find another piglet with similar character, but this is not something that you can figure out when getting a pig from a pet store. I can also consider getting 2 pigs if this will make bonding easier.

Thanks
Anna

Hi, this is a pro rescue forum so we don’t support breeders here.
There is a rescue called Animal rescue and care that is in south London/ Surrey (not far from CJ hall I think) so I would get in touch with them to see if they can set your boy up with some boar dating!
I’d you have a look on the rescue locator you can also see if there are anymore nearby!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
We don't support breeders on the forum. Have you thought about going to a rescue to trial some male piggies? They often offer "dating" which let's your piggy choose their companion and is your best bet to avoid compatibility problems.
I hope this helps, others will be along shortly to offer more advice as I don't live on the UK and don't know of any rescues in your area.

Sorry for your loss.
If you type rescue locator into search you'll see recommended rescues who can usually help with bonding.

Thislittlepiggyrichmond do bonding, if they're near you?

I completely agree with the others, we won’t recommend breeders

Any bond comes down to character compatibility and while you are right, you cannot know the character of a pet shop piggy, you also cannot know the character of a piggy from a breeder and you will face all the same challenges of boar bonding as if you bought a piggy from a pet shop ie the potential for failure as well as bringing in illnesses etc (you cannot quarantine piggies under four months of age so any illness a new piggy brought in may also be passed on to your current piggy).

The only way to get bonding support is via a rescue centre. They will help you find a compatible piggy for your boy but also support you if the bonding fails. You will also be guaranteed that the new piggy is healthy

Getting two more boys to bond with him will not work. Three boars together is a recipe for disaster and will usually end in fights and separated piggies. Boars need to be only be kept in pairs

Welc9me to the forum, I’m so sorry you lost one of your piggies. Boar dating at a rescue would most definitely be the safest option for your remaining boar. The rescue will give your boar a chance to choose his new partner x

Hi and welcome

Having rescue dated a fair number of my own piggies, I can back up the claims that using a good standard rescue with mandatory quarantine and vet care to make sure that they only rehome perfectly healthy piggies is the best way to go.

If you want to find more information on what to look out for when getting more piggies (includes a chapter on rescue dating as well), you may find this guide link here about the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of potential pitfalls interesting and helpful: Rescues (Adoption and Dating), Shops, Breeders or Online? - What to consider when getting guinea pigs

Depending where you are in South London, you could try This Little Piggy guinea pig rescue in Richmond. They are a forum recommended rescue and also personally recommend by me (we got our boys there).

Our pet boarders in Norwood also sometimes takes in small pets and have recently had some GP babies who they think are boys. This is them:
