Hi,

Can anyone recommend a vet in East London that treats Guinea pigs regularly?

Thanks!

Thanks Claire,

I have already looked, there are only 3 listings in London and none close to us. We don’t have a car and I am trying to avoid going on the tube as it’s too stressful for GPs. Looking for a local vet the is experienced in treating Guinea pigs.

I have taken guinea pigs on the tube before - Haywards Heath to London, the tube, and then London to Wigan. The tube didn't cause them any more issues than the rest of the journey did. It is doable, although I get it wouldn't be preferable.

Another approach would be to check if there is a rescue near you.
If so call or e-mail the rescue and ask what vet they use.
A rescue will usually have pigs at the vet on a regular basis.

Can't really help but I'm in a similar position to you. I'm in North London and I don't drive either. The only vet from the Forum list near me wasn't taking on new patients when I contacted them so I'm registered with a local vet within walking distance (or a short bus ride.) I don't think they're hugely experienced with guinea pigs but they are part of a chain, and when I took Toffee recently the vet was saying he usually works at one of their other branches where they see a lot of guinea pigs and they could refer me there if necessary.

Not sure where you are in east but it our vets in south Croydon have an exotic. An Uber is off peak times isn’t that expensive for us from central London so I would imagine it wouldn’t be too expensive.
They are called Ann Nelson vets and normally take exotics now as they have this new vet. They are also very reasonably price at £20 for an appointment.

Thanks for your replies .
I have found a vet in Ilford (Goddard) that has experience with Guinea pigs. Still a tube ride but the closest I could find.

I’m sorry that none of the recommended vets are close by. Hopefully a forum member who lives in London can help
Hi Claire,

Goddard in Ilford have a vet that has a lot of experience with Guinea pigs. Maybe you could add them to your vet list?

Best wishes,
Nicole

do you have the name of the vet and full address of practice so i can add?

@sport_billy I happened to be looking at the vets list and was quite shocked there was none close to East London so I am here with my own suggestion, just for other people that may need help. Hope that's okay!

A really good vet located in East London (in between Ilford and romford, in goodmayes) is Animal Ark.

The address and telephone number is below:
Animal ark veterinary centre
54 goodmayes avenue,
Goodmayes
Essex
IG3 8TW
02085888544

We have been using this place for about 20 years.

They have really good exotic pet vets there (quite a few of them) and they really really care about their patients. They see all types of animals there, I have seen a ferret and some really weird exotic rodent I have never heard of before, be treated there. I have a friend who's crazy about ferrets and she travels from quite a distance to go there because they just really know their stuff. They always answer any questions, squeeze you in if there's a problem, and they have another site around the corner that they use as a hospital wing.

My guinea pig Nine has been through it quite rough recently, and they have been exemplary and she's expected to make a full recovery (fingers crossed) , even after we were told before she went in for surgery that her chances were very low. And Zorro my other piggy, he had an issue (we now know to be just slight bloat!) and they wanted to be sure it wasn't anything too serious, and kept him in for observation overnight, just because they didn't want to misdiagnose him.

I have an ex teacher who has had guinea pigs for like 20+ years and I'm in contact with her as she works with my brother and she gives great advice and lives close to me and is always very supportive. The first day I got my piggies she asked me which vet I intended to use and said there was one closer to where we live. I explained I was going to use animal ark (purely out of loyalty and the fact my families pets have been going there for years, also because I suffer with terrible anxiety places I'm familiar with make me feel more comfortable) and she was absolutely chuffed with that choice too, when she lived closer to the goodmayes area they were her first choice too.

I can find out which vet she uses, and comment on this thread once I have the details, just for more options in East London.

Added thanks for that. Great to have a recommendation

Hi there - I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to second the fact that Eleanor (sp?) at Goddard's Ilford is a really great vet for guineas. She's been helping me out a lot with my boars who've been struggling with various things. Finding her was a real godsend and all the practice staff are lovely as well. Would recommend for anyone in the East London area

I completely agree. I’ve just started going to Elena (pronounced Eleanor) at Goddards Ilford and I feel finding her was an absolute godsend. She’s very knowledgeable and as soon as she prescribed dog strength loxicom (‘because the cat strength doesn’t touch the sides’) I felt my piggy was in good hands. It’s not the closet vet to me and I don’t have a car either, but a door-to-door trip is 40mins on the Overground & the Elizabeth line so not too bad really. I wish I’d found her earlier tbh. Thank you TGPF for including her on your vet list - where I found her. And the practise staff are really lovely and caring too.
