Oh what a sweety. Love the one with the Septrin on the chin! Glad she is doing well. Sounds like she'll be fine. x

maisie has gained weight, from 890g to 969g since the vets. :) she drinks all the meds and water herself, i don't really have to syringe much. x

maisie is still doing really well. she's gone from 969g to 1003g now so looking much better. she's got another week left now on septrin but has been off metacam for a week now and has been fine. x

How did I miss these photos of Beautiful Maisie and Crazy Eddie! Love them! Glad to hear she is doing well x

maisie has finished her meds course now and is doing well. last weigh in she was 1006g and she is being weighed again tomorrow so i hope she has gained a bit more.

maisie has started squeaking when weeing again. and she's drinking a bit more aswell. her weight has just started to drop again... she's 976g now.

the vet thinks she has a bacterial infection rather than anything else going on, so she's back on metacam for the pain now until our appointment, and she will be having a urine sample taken to be tested to see what bacteria is there and what will treat it best.

he said we could choose another antibiotic and treat with that, but that might cause the same thing to happen because it may control certain bacteria's and not others, so then when stopping again, some others may begin to multiply. so the best thing is to see what bacteria is there, and what antibiotic controls them all well.

he did say that some are hard to grow though in the lab, so we could get a negative result, but hopefully we will get a result and can see what will work best.

poor maisie. she's not as bad as last time but we obviously need to get a hold of this.

Aww poor little girl. I hope it clears.

thank you. it seems like a stubborn cystitis case rather than anything else, so we'll see how we get on with the lab being able to grow the bacteria. hopefully we will get a result then take it from there. will keep updating. x

we have been to the vets and maisie had a urine sample taken. it was painful for her and her urine had alot of blood in it, and also some lumpy little gritty bits. so it is possible she might have sludge or even stones afterall. her bladder was actually small and had moved upwards so the vet couldn't really feel much because it was too uncomfortable for her to have it pressed.

anyway, aswell as the metacam, she's now also on a new antibiotic and also something for the bladder wall aswell.

her urine is being tested in the next few hours and then the vet will let us know the results and whether he is going to send it to the lab for a more in depth culture.

if this lot of meds don't work either, then she will be going in to have xrays to check that whole area.

i also got him to check her back end as she seems more stiff. she has had some slight stiffness in her back right leg for a while now, but it's got worse and it's her ankle joint. so we are going to be doing physio on that for her. the metacam will help for now, but physio would be best and can even reduce how stiff it is slightly for her. basically, as long as the physio is working for her, she doesn't need to go on long term metacam for it. so we'll see how we get on with that aswell.

good news is that she hasn't lost as much weight this time. she's 960g now.

poor maisie. so she's on all these meds, and physio now, and we'll just take things a step at a time.

Oh poor maisie girl :( She's not had a good time of late. Keeping fingers and paws crossed here that she picks up again soon! Gentle Wheeks to you both x

thank you. it's strange with it being maisie because she's never really had any health issues. nothing like this anyway. but she's not too down really. never loses her appetite bless her. she did seem a little fed up yesterday but she's a tough cookie.

i usually start worrying but i just need to take it a step at a time and see how we go. she's resting at the minute, in a big hay nest. x

just got the first results back and her urine sample has alot of bacteria in it, and also alot of inflammatory 'cells' (i think)

so the sample is now being sent to the lab for more in depth testing, to see what bacteria's are there, and we should get those results back next week, hopefully by thursday.

Hopefully they can crack it and prescribe the best AB for her x

Aww poor baby. Amelia Jane had sludge removed from her bladder as it was gritty and there were crystals.

thought i would mention what meds she's on incase anyone is searching for info. she is on doxycycline syrup and cerenia maropitant, and metacam aswell.

thank you for the support for maisie. she's such a special girl. x

quick update -

maisie is doing well. she is still squeaking sometimes but the meds have been great so far, and there has been no more blood so far. there was some the night after the vets, but none since then.

she has also gained weight - 960g to 974g so that's good.

she seems brighter and is still eating normally etc.

the physio on her ankle is also going well.

so far so good. :tu:

maisie is alot brighter today. she was doing ok but today i can really see a difference in her. :D :luv:

i don't know how quick meds work, but this combination she was only on for one day and the bleeding stopped :) it has been really great for her so far.

she also did a wee on the settee (missed the blanket!) and she did it easily, no straining, no squeaking, and it looked a normal colour. :)

Great news! Your vets are obviously on the ball. Get well soon Maisie! x

thank you. i don't know if there is still blood in her urine. but visible blood has definitely gone anyway. i know some you can't see though. but she's definitely doing much better. i think i've only heard one squeak so far today. x

she's started squeaking more again, and her urine is sometimes quite dark, although not pink or red like it was before meds. she seems more uncomfortable today. she's 965g today.

maisie is keeping stable at this lower weight and is bright most of the time. but yesterday the red blood spots in her urine started again and she's squeaking a bit more.

got the initial lab results back today which unfortunately say that so far they haven't managed to find out what bacteria's are there. the final report is back tomorrow so fingers crossed they find out something, but it isn't looking likely.

my vet is only in until midday tomorrow and then off all next week, so the other exotics vet will take over maisie's care and decide what to do from here. the other vet is called michelle, if anyone who goes to ashleigh vets is interested, and she is excellent aswell, so i am more than happy to have her decide what to do for maisie. she was brilliant when looking after my rabbit matt when he was very poorly.

i'll update tomorrow when i have heard from the vets. x
