My eldest was diagnosed with mange. The vet said it's not contagious to humans, or other animals like a dog. It would only be contagious to other pigs. So I separated my boys, and will have them that way for probably 20 more days to a month, until the treatment on my other pig is done and he's cured. I've just been wondering though, is it really not contagious to humans? I've been a bit worried, seeing as my head's been rather itchy for a few days now. Though, apparently my pig has had mange for almost a year now (was misdiagnosed as "just a fungus" at first by a useless vet) .

Hiya. What treatment have you been given by your vet? Just wondering as nearly a year seems like a long time to me. (Not criticising just want to be helpful) x

It is a long time indeed. I got Mr.Igloo on Feb 2017. I noticed scabbing on his back a couple of months after I got him. Looking back I realize that they sold him like that, considering that there is no way he could've gotten it while I had him. At first I took him to the vet who sees our dog. He told me it's nothing to worry about. He said there's nothing to do about it. So I let it be. As expected, it got way worse. I took him to a second vet, who didn't take samples to see what it was, and he just said it's a simple fungal infection. He gave me some pills.I forget the name. They're small and pink though. And he also said I should apply Daktarin on the infected areas to help ease it. So i did that. It helped a lot. The scabs went away. However, months later and his fur still looks awful. He has some bald spots on his back, and his underside is basically hairless. So I decided to take him to someone who specializes in rodent care. It wasn't cheap at all, but I'm glad I did. She gave him a shot, and said I'll have to bring him for a second shot in 15 days time.

Hi, there's different types of mange. Did the last vet do any tests to specify what it is?

Were you given invoice? It should state what medicine he was given.
If you think he was ill before you got them you can speak to the shop/breeder.
