Medication advice

Just a quick update. My boyfriend is currently on his way home from picking up Zippy. Simon called him and said that he's not worried enough about him to warrant keeping him in overnight so he's coming home!:(|)
Zips is still quite spaced out aparently so we need to syringe him food every couple of hours and give him his medication.
I'll update again once he's home and settled in.

He's back in his house, currently tucking into some Romaine Lettuce. They vets did tell us that he might not eat tonight but he started tucking straight in when he got back home. drool
I'll be happier when he's eaten some nuggets but at the moment it's lovely to see him eating some lettuce!
The vets gave us the stone they removed from him, and it's no wonder he's been squealing when going to the toilet. It's quite long and is a very odd shape.
I'm just glad he's home and eating something!

The main thing is that he's eating. We always called him eco pig because he's not cost us anything really until today! He's not the eco pig anymore!

:(|):(|):(|) No, but they become that little bit extra special when they have come through something like this! I've sometimes been tempted to find out exactly how much I have spent on Poppet, but it's probably better if I don't! :(|)

Wonderful to hear he is back at home, munching away on veggies! I hope he has a comfortable night and gets back to full health very soon.

He's had some romaine, and a bit of grass so far. I've given him some carrot but he's not really bothered about that at the moment. We've just given him his medication. He's spending pretty much all his time in his house and hasn't really ventured out at all which is hardly surprising.
His wound looks nice and clean when we just checked it.

Fingers crossed he starts improving everyday and gets back to his normal self soon.

What bedding is he on? I'm sure Simon will have explained what not to keep him on. Vetbed is ideal for post-op piggies, it does need changing twice a day if he's not moving much, but hopefully he'll feel comfortable enough to start moving around within the next day or two.

Just thinking of keeping the wound clean, now. :)

We'll keep a close eye on the wound and make sure it is nice and clean. He's got another appointment at the vets on saturday morning for a check up but if we are worried about him we'll take him straight in before then.

I am glad that Zippy has made it through the op and is nibbling.

Sending him my vibes for a good and quick recovery! At least, with Simon, he couldn't be in better hands!

I always put mine on towels post op. So pleased he seems to be doing so well. Just keep giving him little bits of the foods he loves.

Are you at work tomorrow? You do realise they will have him in the vets for observation and syringe feeding if you are worried about leaving him. When I was there the other week a lady was picking her bunny up who had been in each day that week for syringe feeding as she was worried about leaving him all day.

We've just given him some syringe food which he took really well. We'll give him some more before I go to bed and again in the morning with his medication.
As i work full time, my boyfriend may have to try to syringe him on his own. Is the best way of doing this by wrapping Zippy up in a towel and doing it that way? When the nurse gave Zippy some food before he left the vets she had him on all fours on a table, she just held his head and put the syringe in.

I work full time but my boyfriend works from home so he'll be able to keep an eye on Zippy and hopefully give him some syringe food by himself if needs be. I didn't know they'd have him in for observation and feeding. Thats something to bear in mind if we ever need to use that.

I've always found syringe feeding easier having them wrapped in a towel, although Poppet would just stand at the bars and take the food from the syringe quite willingly. In fact she loves the syringe so much! :)) Of course though the other option is asking the vets to have him in for the day. Is your boyfriend home all day tomorrow?

Yes, he's home all day pretty much. He'll have to pop to the supermarket but will only be out for an hour at the most. The rest of the day he'll be at home looking after little zips.

Maybe your boyfriend can see how it goes but if he doesn't feel too confident about the syringe feeding he can phone and ask if they can have Zippy in for syringe feeding. They will definitely do it.

Hopefully he'll manage to do it. Zips wasn't struggling too much at the start but did start to struggle a little by the time we'd got to the 5th syringe so hopefully it won't be too much of a trial for them both tomorrow. I'm kind of hoping for loads of snow tonight so I can't go to work tomorrow and then I'll be able to keep an eye on him all day and help with the feeds.

Well it is snowing, so you never know! You might get your wish! :))

Hi this is Steve Ruths boyfriend. Zippy hadnt been out much if at all overnight from what we could see. We syringe fed him this morning and then afterwards i gave him some grass which he came out and ate straight away. He also had a drink from his bottle for the first time since hes been home which is good.:(|).
He has been sitting in his house ever since though so i have just given him some more critical care. Its the first time i've done it on my own after the nurse showed me yesterday. Zippy was brilliant and actually seemed to be helping too if thats possible. Anyway he took more critical care than ever which is pleasing. If he hasnt been out in a couple of hours i will try and give him some more. At the moment though he seems okay and is in quite good spirits.:(|)

That's good news! Glad to hear he's been for a little drink and was keen to take the Critacal Care.

Good luck and hope he gets stonger and stonger

He won't move that much while he is still sore for the first two or three days after the op; but his having an appetite and an interest in food is a VERY good sign! He'll make it!

Good to hear that the "Zippy-sitting" is going well so far Steve, sounds like you're doing a great job. I agree with Wiebke, Zippy will be less active than usual for another day or two until his wound feels a bit less tender, but the fact he's taking his syringe-feeds well is a great sign. :)

Zippy has been out of his house a few times this evening, even tucking into some of his hard food! :(|)

He seems to be getting back to his normal self today. We gave him some critical care before i had to go to work this morning and then again at lunchtime. When Steve weighed him before he fed him at lunchtime he'd lost quite a bit of weight, so since then we've been feeding him a lot and he's put a fair amount of weight back on. I had to go out this evening, but Steve has told me that he was eating most of the evening and was squeaking for his veggies tonight. When i got back in a little while ago he was squeaking for more veggies! He's been much more active this evening especially.
His wound is still nice and clean too. :(|)
He's squeaking as I type so I had better go and chop him some food up!
