Meet Edamame (Ed or Eddie for short), Tofu’s new friend - he’s only three weeks old and he’s gorgeous!

My 4yo boy Tofu went rescue dating after we lost Patches, as I didn’t want to neuter him unless it was a last resort, considering his health problems. The timing worked out well - the rescue had just taken in several pregnant females and there were a few baby boys coming up to separating age. Which means Ed was taken straight from his mum to bond with Tofu, no time alone or bouncing around different adults

Tofu went to the rescue on Saturday, bonding was done on Sunday and by all accounts went about as smoothly as it could have!

I’ve literally just got them home now, so I’m trying to let them be - Tofu is relaxed but Edamame is understandably a bit spooked. He had a zoom around the cage and then dove into a hay pile safely under the blanket

Here’s the pictures I’ve managed to get so far. I can’t believe the size difference! Never seen a piggie so young before and I am totally in love 🄰

Apparently Ed was following Tofu around everywhere at the rescue šŸ˜ and when I went to collect them, Ed was tucked underneath Tofu, between his legs. I think Tofu will make a good mentor. They say thank you for the warm welcome!

I also got this photo on the journey home. They got some cucumber chunks in the carrier as it’s quite warm today and we had to take a train. Edamame poked his head out after Tofu and nibbled in sync with him šŸ˜

What a little cutie boy! With Tofu's help, Eddie will quickly find his feet with his uncle boar and will soon start to mimic him and learn from him. Enjoy the precious but oh so short baby weeks!

Your ā€˜Journey Through A Lifetime’ guide about piggies through the years has been very helpful while I’ve been setting up to have a young one! Thank you šŸ˜

This little boy is very brave - he’s ventured out from the cardboard box (where he hid at first), circled the cage, munched on some hay, found the water bottle, and did a couple of popcorns! Checking off everything I was worried about him finding on day one haha

He and Tofu made a little piggie train 🄰

Tofu is so relaxed. He wasn’t very happy on his own these last few weeks, so it’s just lovely watching him nap and amble around again

Awwww! What a cute little face with the little white mark and then a white paw!

Welcome Edamame! I hope to see lots more of you when you've settled in.

They are so tiny at that age, what a difference between him and Tofu. They grow bigger fast.

It's great that Tofu is so relaxed around Edamame and looking after him. I love that Ed was sitting under Tofu!

Thank you. It is such fun to actually watch 'piggy school' and how youngsters learn. I still remember little Llelo rumbling along the cages and practising exactly the same rumbling hip swing as Dylan as he tried to impress the ladies in the hay tray. It was too cute!

For those who would like to have a look at the Journey guide, here is the link. Otherwise you can find it together with some other interesting information on guinea pigs as a species in their own right in the sub-forum 'Species Understanding' off the Behaviour section.

Fantastic! He's such a gorgeous baby šŸ„¹ā¤ļø
Patches will be pleased that Tofu has a new friend I'm sure 😊
I hope Patches is doing happy wheeks over the bridge with Noodle (and Tweed), pleased their friend isn’t alone anymore ā˜ŗļø

Tofu is a big boy (1.25-1.3kg), which probably contributes to the size difference, but it is still a surprise! Edamame is just so teensy at the moment. He weighed in at 215g at the rescue, we’ll see how he does over the next few days

He has one little white front paw, and one white back leg as well. I’m hoping to get a better look at his markings tomorrow morning when he’s had a chance to settle in, because he’s just adorable!

The videos of your babies learning from the adults are so sweet, it made me quite excited to see how Tofu is with a little one. I hoped he’d make a good teacher, as he’s a very chilled out mellow boar, not dominant at all. So far he’s doing well I think - when Ed was hiding out in the cardboard box, Tofu went in there with him and lay by his side and then Ed started eating some hay with him ā¤ļø

Just had evening veggie time and it went down very well!

Tofu did a proper big wheek for food, which I haven’t heard from him since we lost his brother Noodle months ago. He’s the happiest he’s been in ages ā¤ļø

Edamame tucked into the veg, even came out from under the blanket and had a sniff of my fingers! He’s very brave. The rescue owner said he’s been quite cheeky with his mum and sisters, I suspect he might be a handful šŸ˜‚

Gotta love a piggy with attitude. As you may already be aware, Miss Bramble is a bit of a handful.
I dread the day Edamame finds out about the GPU šŸ˜‚

Came down this morning to find them napping together. Edamame wanted Tofu to wake up though šŸ˜‚

Not sure about being out of the cage, but he has gained weight! 232g today

Eating breakfast together ā¤ļø he’s clearly been exploring in the night, because there are baby poops scattered everywhere along with Tofu’s lol
