Perl is on the left, and her daughter, Git is next to her.

They chose the tiniest hiding spot I gave them to stay while they gather the bravery to explore their new home. There will be better photos once they're less terrified of me.

Today they were taken from their home, brought on a one hour long car ride, and now they're in this strange place that smells different and they don't understand anything that's happening to them.

Poor nuggets.

Have you covered the cage with a blanket? That'll make them feel a bit safer. Put some hideys around too that they can dart into if they feel scared. A nice hay pile is always popular. Always talk to them as you approach the cage as a predator is silent. Leave them to settle for a few days so they get used to their new and scary place.

Yes they are covered, we'll the half of the cage the kitchen area is on is covered. They don't have enough hideys. I'm heading to the pet store in a few minutes to grab some things.

Last night Git started squeaking when I was watching TV downstairs. Their cage is up in my loft... Here's a pic. The grids are stacked like that so the cat can't enter the loft. I put in all this effort to cat proof and it doesn't even matter. We get the piggies home and the cat can't even be bothered with being curious. She's much more interested in when she's going to get wet food next. My cat is so weird.

Anyway, when I heard Git, I went up the stairs to watch from a distance. She was popcorning and zooming all over the place! She didn't have as much space before, so I like to imagine she was very excited to be able to move. She seems so happy when no humans are near her.

This morning, neither of them are interested in their veggies. Though Perl, the mama, did take treats from my hand! She's not scared of me at all now. In fact, she won't leave me alone for treats. As soon as she realized giving the human attention got her food, she won't stop bugging me. It makes me so happy! My heart feels full, lol.

Git is still very very nervous when I'm near the cage.

I think I'm only going to interact with Perl around food time in the morning and evening and kind of leave them alone between that, for Git's sake.

Also does anyone have any idea how old Git is? She's so tiny!

Sorry the photo's not great. Poor thing was so scared of me I just took one as quick as I could.

They are just beautiful.
It's lovely to hear that Pearl already seems settled and I am sure Git will come around.
No idea about her age though - sorry.
In younger piggies weight cna soemtimes be used as a rough guide - do you know how much she weighs?

After just a few days I'm so impressed with these girls.

I have them all set up in their 2x4 C&C cage with plenty of hiding spots and running space. In fact, Perl just finished a zoomie marathon in the last few minutes!

Perl was willing to take treats from my hand from her first morning here! She wasn't really phased from the move. It was super easy to teach Perl to put her paws up on the side of the cage in front of her door for a treat. So, when I come up the loft ladder, she greets me with her paws at the door, expecting a treat. It's quite cute.

Git is taking things a lot more slowly. I took advantage of Perl's friendliness and their piggy-see-piggy-do mentality. I made it a point to give Perl treats if Git was near. IT WORKED! In no time, Git got jealous that Perl had this secret source of food and she came to investigate me. FINALLY, she ate a flower from the end of a piece of timothy hay I was holding out for her.

Now, she'll get close enough to my hand to take a pea flake! She's still terrified. She takes the treat from me and immediately runs off with it. She doesn't stick around. If I have no treat and trick her into sniffing my finger, she runs off to a corner of the cage. She's not super tame, but it's definite progress. I don't push it. I have only interacted with her maybe 5-10 minutes at a time about three or four times a day since they came to live with me.

They have started to eat their veggies. In fact, they clear their plate... But only of the things they like to eat. :P They avoid bell peppers like the plague. I thought that since they were coming to me for treats I might be able to trick them into eating the peppers. But as soon as they smell it their faces say, "Bro...what?" We're going to keep trying the peppers though. Maybe once they've rejected all the bits of the yellow one, I'll start trying with the green.

They have figured out how to pull up the liner and get underneath it. So that's ... fun. Maybe they just need their soft hideys that are coming from Guinea Pig Market to get here faster. :P

I'm just super in love with them. :)

They’re both lovely
I’d keep trying them with the different veg, they might change their mind over time. My Luigi was very fussy when i first adopted him but now 7 months on he demolished everything! Even carpet, wallpaper and sofas!

Luigi sounds like a tiny handful! :D

I've got updates!

They are incredible. Git is always copying her mama. But they both have very distinctly different tastes in veggies. They will both eat all of them now but Git much favors her greens and Perl much favors the bell peppers. I think this has something to do with us being on the orange one currently. She is in for a big surprise when we finish this one and go to the green one!

I do worry that I'm not feeding them enough. They're always ridiculously excited around food time. They usually have hay and pellets. Though, sometimes their pellets are gone by the time their next salad is ready.

I feed them 1 cup of salad (total for the both of them) twice a day. It's usually mostly greens and about 4 little squares of bell peppers. About 1/8th of a pepper in each salad. Sometimes there's carrot tops. Sometimes there's carrots. Sometimes there's green beans. Once there were strawberries and all they ate were the greens. Tomorrow they will each have a little bit of apple as a treat.

But no matter how much they're fed they seem always starving. I know that's a thing. But it worries me.

We do floor time every night now. This took a few days of me sitting there with the door open, playpen and toys all set up, and them not coming out despite being awake and active. Finally, Perl ventured out and found the plate full of forage. It was cute, she went back into the cage and it seemed like she talked to Git to convince her to come out. Because, right after, Git followed her out. Today was the third day of floor time.

Git is still timid around me. But whenever she comes up to me I make sure to show her my hands. Sometimes with treats, sometimes without. Today she wasn't worried at all with my hands so I wiggled my fingers slowly. She was fine with that. So I reached out and touched her nose softly. She didn't understand that, but also didn't run and hide. I decided to let her be after that. She's so heckin' sweet.

And then the bad news... My fiance and I have discovered WE ARE BOTH ALLERGIC TO THEM! We're not sure if it's dander, their hay, dust from the paper bedding, or what. We're getting an air purifier delivered on Wednesday, but if that doesn't help we're going to have to move on. It's very sad, but there's no way this is sustainable.

It's either allergies or we caught the Covid-19 virus. Either is plausible as we live in the Seattle metro area, and my company is not taking any safety measures seriously. Oyyy.
