Oh dear we were giving lovely Jezzy floof a check over and a bum bath and foot massage today and she has a crusty nipple and a bald patch on her tummy and one on her bottom, could this be the start of ovarian cysts?
She's had small bald patches before that were repeatedly checked by the vet and weren't mites and weren't fungal and never got sore or red, just bald and a bit flaky with dry skin, then they went away... her weight is good and she very much enjoyed her bath and foot massage, especially the carrots afterwards...
She's 3 years old, so I guess ovarian cysts is a possibility and we need to get her to the vet this week :(

From my understanding the hairloss with cysts is usually on the sides. That said, my late Bea, one of my original piggies had cysts and the first sign with her was a bald strip down her tummy. On very close inspection the vet could see that she had in fact barbered the area most likely due to discomfort from the cysts

I would say its a big sign that she has. But only going by what i have read on here before.

A crusty nipple is usually an indication that she may be developing an ovarian cyst. Hair loss/thinning hair on the belly is very often from mechanical abrasion (sleeping on the belly) but the bald patch on the back isn't definitely not related to cysts.

Is your piggy a teddy?

She's a big fluffy abysinnian cross of some sort, she does sleep in her wee a lot hence the bum bath and regular feet cleans and foot massages with gorgeous guineas foot cream, but the crusty nipple is a new thing and the bald bum patch is bigger than we've seen before when we've had her checked for mites and fungal- the bald bits dont look sore, it would be easy to see if it was sore as she has very pale skin- just bald :(

Can you post a picture? Bald clean spots in the centre of an aby rosette are not quite uncommon in my experience.
Teddy breeds are known for the skin problems related to their dense coat.

Yes all of my 3 aby's have bald patches where the rosettes all meet at one point. Not so noticeable with Bernie. Black skin

She wasn't that keen to stay still, and she's still damp/fluffy from her bath, but here's the balding bum batch- its sort of around the rosette not in the middle

And this is her crusty sore looking nipple, its quite swollen, and there looks to be a balder patch under the nipple and a bald stripe down her tummy

And apologies for the wee stains, she has genuinely just had a bum bath but she doesnt ever quite come clean! She smells nice now though and her feet are washed and moisturised.
She does have feet problems too I dont know if that's relevant, when we got her almost a year ago she was obese and had been kept in a hamster cage on hard cat litter pellets for 2 years with no space to lie down and although she's slimmed down and toned up her feet have never quite recovered, she doesnt have bumblefoot as the skin has never broken but the vet said it could happen if we didnt take good care of her crusty old red feet!

The rosette looks like it could possibly be normal, however, you know more than anyone

Yeah if it was just the rosette I'd say barbering but the nipple is a worry... I see Jezzy's nipples and underneath a lot when she has her foot massages and this is new and seemed swollen and sore... I fuss about Jezzy because she is my favourite piggy even though we shouldnt really have favourites, she is so friendly and floofy and loves a cuddle (as long as there are carrots or coriander involved of course!)

The nipple does look a bit bald around it

It was scabby and crusty as well before her bath, she didnt like me touching it and usually she's fine being touched anywhere... unless she grazed it on something but I can't think what she lives in a big fleecy pampering mansion and I put a fleecy pad anywhere she might sit to protect her precious little feetsies!

I think you are right with the ovarian problems. I have read somewhere that sows all have a high chance. Dot probably would have but she is spayed now. How old is floof

She's supposed to be 3 but sometimes I suspect she's older, she has old lady feet and quite bony feeling hips despite being rather well padded around the tummy and ribs! Her and Clover are meant to be sisters but sometimes I wonder if she's actually Clover's mum, Clover seems younger and Jezzy has a mumsy vibe going on like maybe she had babies once... no way of knowing!

Is there no way with blood tests? I have no idea.sounds like you could be right

Lol like Jeremy Kyle for piggies where the big reveal shows Jezzy's sister is actually her daughter and Clover is outraged and Jezzy sobs how she was seduced by a handsome cuy chap in her youth and that's why Clover is so big and butch and bad tempered? That's so funny it cheered me up and stopped me worrying about Jezzy's nipple :)
We'll get lovely floof to the vets this week anyway for a thorough check up, I'll try get in to see head vet Clare because if it is cysts then Clare would be the one doing the surgery and she's pretty upfront about risks vs benefits and complications and costs, she's operated on 3 of my other piggies and also saved Puggle's life when she had acute bloat so I trust her judgement!

Vet check for cysts is a good idea.
If they are caught quickly it’s much easier to deal with them.
In my ( limited) experience cyst symptoms vary.
Jemimah showed no signs at all of cysts - they were found when she went for abscess surgery and ended up having an emergency spay as they were on the verge of bursting.
Phoebe was scratching more and barbering her sides. That’s what made my piggy alert brain twitch. Her cysts were still very small
Merab’s fur started thinning at her sides - unfortunately her cysts turned out to be very widespread.
Hope Jezzy is ok - let us know how things go at the vets

Thank you! She seems fine in herself but the crusty swollen nipple is a worry and looking back she's had a couple of episodes of unexplained hair loss and weight loss since last November. Nothing dramatic and the vet didnt find anything at the time, but something maybe not quite right. I'll book her in at the vets this week anyway, if nothing's wrong they can trim her awful toenails while we are there!
Hope Phoebe is still doing well!

Phoebe is recovering nicely thanks.
She hasn’t quite got her energy and bounce back but she did have major surgery only 4 days ago.

Hope all goes well for Jezzy.
Hope to hear good news

Here are some more flattering pigtures of my beautiful floof having her dinner just now, because photos of her sore nippled wee stained undercarriage really dont capture her gorgeous overall floofiness! She almost always has dinner on the castle house roof like this so no pig can steal her food :)
