Over the last few days, Mimsi had become withdrawn. He is making attempts to eat and drink but is very lethargic. I took him to the vets who examined him thoroughly, teeth, abdomen etc. The vet (who had 30 pigs himself) said that it is probably just his age and it is his time. Mimsi is 8. He gave his a gut stimulant jab and a pain killer but just said to keep him comfy and stress free. He did eat some grass and hay this morning. I told the vet that I was concerned about losing three piggies in such a short space of time and that could there be a contaminant, I'm thinking a dodgy hay batch or food supply. The vet said if that was the case they would have died quicker and at the same time. i have thrown out all their hay and food and replaced it. All water bottles have been sterilised. My other piggie Matilda is fine, she must be about six now. So again, I'm preparing for the loss of another piggie. I knew Mimsi couldnt go on forever but its just for the three of them to go so close together. He is on a lovely soft fleece and Ive just syringe fed him some critical care.

BIG HUG

What rotten time for you! I am so sory that Mimsi wants to join the piggy friends that are no longer around. I am sure that you are doing everything to make his passing as easy on him as possible.

Thank you. I know Mimsi is a great age and with his medical history really shouldnt have lived beyond three! Its just too close to Lady P and Montgomery and I'm starting to think is it something Ive done or given them to eat. The vet said its just coincidence and actually took my hand as I burst into floods of tears. Mimsi looks comfy, he is just curled up on the fleece and doesnt appear to be in pain...Feel so helpless and my heart is breaking...

Oh Angie you have really been though it lately babes. I am so so sorry to hear your very sad news.

I am thinking of you and hold you and all your piggies close to my heart today.

HUGS, HUGE HUGS coming straight at you sweetheart.

I am so sorry, you are really going through it at the moment. You and Mimsi are in my thoughts. As the vet has said - it isn't anything you've done, it's just unfortunately their time. I really feel for you. x

Thinking of you, you must be beside yourself with grief at the moment.

What a great age though, none of my piggies have ever got past 3 1/2, so i can imagine what you must be feeling.

Take care and just love your little Mimsi x

I have shed tears for you and your losses, now Mimsi - poor Branston & Pickles lost her boy too so I feel so emotional for all owners who have poorly piggies. My boy Harley is not well and going back to the vet this afternoon and I have been a wreck - phoned sick at work just to stay with him.
I too wonder about the hay but my other 5 piggies have been ok :... watching them like hawks and finding it hard to sleep thinking I've done something wrong :(
Heartbreaking and worrying times and am thinking of you x>>
Hugs to Mimsi xoxo

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mimsi today.

They have all been amazing and such different characters. Mimsi has lived all these years with his bladder stone, impaction and lame paw. Maybe the stress of losing the other two has played a part, or maybe this would have happened anyway.

Oh Angie I'm so sad to hear Mimsi is poorly. I can't believe what a bad time you're having at the moment. Trust your vet, it's nothing you've done. All your piggies are good ages and have had a good life with you. If it's their time, it's their time it's just especially sad that their times have come at once. Sending you a big hug and thinking of Mimsi. x

Please don't blame yourself, you're an amazing piggie-mum, as evidenced by the great age dear Mimsi has reached. It's just so awful for you that it's so close after losing your other two - my heart aches for you.

I'm so sorry, he sounds like a wonderful pig. Big hugs to you and Mimsi.

Angie you are such a lovely, caring, wonderful slave who just puts her darlings at the fore front........never ever blame yourself

Hi Farquar. I'm really sorry to hear about your mimsi. He sounds like an amazing piggie, who has had a long and happy life with you.
Can you tell me what impaction is? as you know my ginger is suffering bladder stones and i think that maybe this is an issue for her aswell, if it is what I think it is.

Thankyou

Girls, can't get impaction. Some boys find it difficult to pass pellets as they get older which means us Slaves have to clean out them out. Its not pleasant! :))..

Angie Babes, just a quick note to let you know We're thinking of you and if you need anything and I can help let me know!

Huge Hugs! x

So sorry about Mimsi. It does sound as if it's her time. Were they all living together? If so, piggies can be very affected by the loss of a cage mate. My Piggy Wiggin became terminal when her sister went downhill last year and I ended up having them both put to sleep. Then Sweetie stopped eating and drinking and it was a real battle to save her even though she was a healthy pig otherwise.

I am guessing that this is what happens in the wild with piggies who are older and less resilient. Please don't doubt your capabilities as an owner.

Thanks. Lady Penelope shared a cage with Matilda. Mimsi and Montgomery were housed seperately as single boars as they never bonded. I'm sure they must sense the loss.. Mimsis cage is right next to the girls and he loves snuggling with them through the bars of the cage...

Sorry I got Mimsi's sex wrong in my previous message :red

I think piggies feel loss in ways that we cannot really understand. My vets wouldn't believe that grief played a part in me losing two (and nearly a third) piggy last year but it was just too much of a coincidence for there to have been any other cause. Think back to your early childhood. Adults were a hazy presence in the background but other children were the centre of your life. This must be what it is like for piggies.

Having recently lost agroup of senior piggies quite close together I know just how you are feeling ,but as my vet said "it is the quality of life that counts "and I am sure your piggies had the best, so take what comfort you can fro m that.

I am sure that Mimsi knows very well that the others have gone. It is sad, but not rare to see old piggies leave to be with their friends again rather than hang on. For you, it must feel like the end of your piggy world - memories, as precious as they are, can never replace the piggy itself.

Cuddles for you, Mimsi and poor lonely Matilda!
