Minnou’s piggies

I made a tent for them out of an old teatowel, something for them to play with, and Minerva has pulled it down and is now curled up underneath her new 'blankie' with only her nose visible.

I don't think she knows what a heat-wave is.

I once had Comet and Blitzen complain about my heat wave prep by shoving themselves into the same tunnel, side by side, and they chose the smaller tunnel so they got themselves stuck there and apparently decided they were okay with that and didn't alert me.

I almost had to resort to wrecking the tunnel to get them out. Did they care? They cared I disturbed their comfort, that's for sure 🙄

Pigs in blankets ❌👎

Pigs in tunnels 💯👍

I thought today was THE day!

I tried offering the girls some bell pepper again and Minerva had a curious nibble... then she dropped it on the floor and refused to touch it again.

(At least she didn't embarrass herself like Gaia, who ran away crying and then hid in the corner of the cage when offered a piece...)

Bell pepper is breakfast food only in this house. Try feeding it to them after breakfast and all four of them just look at you like "haha no, where's the actual food?"

My two just won't eat it at all. Have refused to try it their whole lives.

They'd rather eat green eggs and ham!

They really like them, Sam-I-am. They really like green eggs and ham!

(I've never actually read Green Eggs & Ham though lol).

But that means all the more pepper for you, so I'd call it a win.

And I like eating it just as it is. And they have a meltdown if they hear me eating it but then get very disappointed when they realise that's the thing I'm snacking on.

My garden is overrun with daisies again and I want to put the girls outside when the weather is nice.

Are daisies poisonous to piggies or not? More to the point, do piggies think they taste nice? Because if they don't taste nice I have nothing to worry about; they won't touch them.

Bann didn't like asparagus and once ate a chunk of it.

Now, Bann did this because he thought it was a green bean, the two were next to each other, and he picked up the wrong one - easy mistake when you can't see in front of your nose - but he still did it.

(and then glared at me for the next few hours because of course it was my fault)

Lawn daisies aren't poisonous to guineas or to humans, so for taste you can try them out yourself! The green leaves and stem taste okay in the spring, I use them in wild herbal mixes, but going into summer and even worse autumn yuck yuck. The flower is milder than the green bits, but also gets less palatable as summer moves into autumn... The reason: daisy plant contains saponine.

Well, they've been out.

I left an area of grass to grow to my knees and they seemed happy hiding in there. It started raining suddenly and I had to run out and rescue them. Gaia was sat waiting. Minerva decided she didn't want to be rescued and I brought her back inside against her will.

Returned to find a nice clean bed with lots of fresh hay waiting for them.

Then they used emotional blackmail to get some apple.

It has been a good day, I guess!

Well, Minerva, sometimes your Piggy Parent knows best! Not good for guineas to be out in what could turn into a downpour! Or even a thunderstorm.

She was doing her best to evade capture and came in a bit damp as a result. As soon as she was released back inside the house, she turned around to give me 'the look' then went bumbling about, muttering to herself.

'Girls! Your ears feel hotter than the sun! Let me drape you in this cool (because it was soaked in cold water then wrung out) tea towel'

Minerva: *flees*

Gaia: *rage-throws it off*

'OK... I'll just turn them into a tent then'

Gaia: *crawls under it with most of it resting on top of her* (You know, how I was trying to drape it over her a few seconds ago)

Minerva: *pulls the other one down and lies down on top of it*

'Nice to see a heatwave doesn't stop you being awkward to deal with...' 🙄

Bianca once had the decision between staying outside in the open garden in the rain, or going back into the safe run... with @KHBz in it...

*briefly rustles the plastic window of an envelope*

Gaia: *EXTREME WHEEKING*

Bearing in mind they'd just demolished a huge pile of grass and they usually leave me alone for a couple of hours after, I was concerned by her abnormally loud and 'off' sounding wheek, so I was actually concerned for her and went to check on her and was met with complete silence when I asked her what was wrong, so I returned to open my letter.

Gaia: *EXTREME WHEEKING PART 2*

*rushes back* 'What's wrong, Gaia?'

*more silence, so I return to opening my letter*

Gaia: *EXTREME WHEEKING PART 3*

'Right, floor time so I can have some peace' *plonks her down*

Gaia: * MEGA EXTREME BANSHEE WHEEKING*

'OH GOOD LORD! Minerva! You sort her out!'

*plonks Minerva on the floor next to Gaia, then they both stroll under the cabinet, lie down beside each other and have a nap*

There is no need....

Seriously, am I being warned off Minerva? 😂

Every time I give Min-min a little stroke, Gaia comes sauntering over, looks me dead in the eye and rumblestruts at me. Then she nuzzles and grooms Minerva wherever I laid my filthy hooman hands on her. It's like Gaia is saying 'I got you, babe. I'll fix your fur (and then her)' *menacingly*

*Spots Gaia in the garden, flopped on the floor, not moving a muscle*

*Calls out to her**No response, not even the twitch of an ear*

*Rushes into the run to check she is not dead*

*Surprised, Gaia jumps up....... then immediately starts rumblestrutting at me*

'Oh, so you're fine then....'

*carries the girls back indoors before it gets too hot outside for them*

Minerva immediately turns around and heads for the open back door.

Minerva: 'No! I'm a WILD PIG!'

Me: 'You're not going back out' *body blocks her*

Minerva: 'Then I'm going to the living room and I'm gonna go behind the sofa and pee!' *marches off*

*From the living room*

Minerva: 'WHY IS THE BACK OF THE SOFA BLOCKED OFF?! NOT FAAAIIIIIIIRRRR!'

Me:

Reasons my guinea pigs are mad at me today:

1) I resisted their demands for the melon they knew was in the fridge (you can't have fruit every day, sorry)
2) I put them outside
3) I brought them back indoors
4) I made myself a cup of tea, got some biscuits, didn't give them any of either
5) Give them unsolicited bum tickles when I saw a furry butt poking out of a hidey

'Minerva... I can see what you're doing! Kindly refrain from mauling my laptop's power cable!' *wiggles fingers in front of her face to chase her off*

Minerva: 'Fight me!' *bounces about before shoving her way past my hand and continuing to maul the cable*

*Administers bum tickles to the offending guinea pig* :|

Minerva: *popcorns away and then back for a 3rd round*

*Gets a pile of books and a stool to elevate the whole power cable 2 feet from the ground* :|

Minerva: '........ This isn't fair....' :|
