I do not have a guinea rescue in my area so when looking for a friend for a guinea that was given to my daughter by a family that could not care for it, I turned to Craigslist and looked for the guinea that seemed in need of a loving home most. I found my boar Jack. He was purchased from a pet store and his owners simply couldn't give him the love and attention he needed. When he came to me he looked healthy. I kept him and my other boar apart for a few days so he could get used to his surroundings. Once we introduced them they got along well and are now in the same cage. It seems though that Jack brought with him some mites or a fungal infection. I don't know exactly which as the other guinea has always been healthy. I have no idea exactly how to treat this ailment. Also, they have both been spending time together and I am unsure of whether to separate them, especially since they are just getting used to one another. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That to me looks fungal as he seems to have a bloom to his ear and there are white patches too. However, it is best that the vet diagnoses officially.

If the vet agrees that it is fungal then the best treatment is with a product called Imaverol (Enilconazole) which can he used as a dip but can also be applied topically. Are you in the US? If so I think you can get it there under the name of Enilconazole (not Imaverol).

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm hoping it is fungal as it seems it won't be as difficult for my poor guinea to recover from. I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow and will be sure to ask about those meds. Thank you again :)

Don't panic if the diagnosis is mites, this is also easily treated with a course of Ivermectin, preferably by injection.
