Karen do you know what happens if there is nobody in when they deliver the cavy cuisine lol? does it just go to the post office to pick up? x

They take mine nextdoor, but I think there's an option to get it sent somewhere at the end of ordering- email Sue :) Your pet shop etc can order it in for as well.

I tried to switch mine over to Cavy Cuisine a few time but they won't eat it. so they are still on the Excell :-\
jnenbnb I have a bag here, do you want me to send you a sample before you buy?

Aw Laure thats really nice thank you, i have ordered it now though! I dont mind if i cant switch them over, its worth a go and i only ordered a small bag x

Hi i use gloria johnsons food O0
I used it before and my pigs liked it but then heard it had additives in ti so changed to WAGG :P however they didnt like wagg but LOVED gloria johnsons but didnt want to buy it but i bought another bag with different packaging and only just realised its johnsons gloria ;D as i dont tend to look at what the feed is called ::) but they love it so am not changing it like i did before O0

I had one boy that wouldn't change, but when I had finished with the gradual changeover and it was CC or nothing he did choose the Cavy Cuisine and got to like- no choice! They really only need a small amount :)

If your pet shop stocks Vet Bed (the real one!) then they can order in Cavy Cuisine and Oxbow hays, but spread the word that they stock it so its worth their while buying it in- its expensive stuff for them to stock when no one buys it :)

oh, so i've done the wrong thing ordering a big bag of wagg then? :-\ I'll get some cavy cuisine next time :)

mr johnsons contains : guinea pig pellet (wheatfeed, high protien soya meal, sunflower meal, lucerne, limestone, oatfeed, salt, vitamins and trace elements, soya oil, methionine, lysine), micronised pease, micronised maize, micronized beans, locust beans, extruded biscuits (wheat, barley, wheatfeed, permitted colourants), whole oats, micronised wheat, micronised full fat soya, chopped alfalfa, whole wheat, dried carrot rings.
oil 3.0%, protien 18.0%, fibre 9.0%, ash 5.5%, copper 25mg/kg, vit A 20000iu/kg, vit D 2800iu/kg, vit E 80iu/kg, vit C 210mg/kg

Are these bad ingredients and if so can you tell me which bits are bad and why so i know for future reference (just want to learn :) )

I only give them one bowl of dry food between them a day and i usually end up throwing at least a third away the next morning and they have a constant supply of hay (usually the same as horses would get) and have grass from the garden when it has nutritional value, various fresh veg daily and fresh herbs and clean water every day. I've never had any medical problems in their 2yrs other than the paralyisis for a few months so i hope i'm getting it right. Am i missing anything? I always wonder if they should have some kind of salt/mineral lick as well?

Colourings are bad because they give false positive readings for glucosewhen a urine test is done, if Insulin is given and not needed it could kill a guinea pig!
they are thought to irritate the digestive/urinary tract.

Locust beans get caught on teeth and some contain seeds that can get stuck in the molars, the Southern Cavy Club warned against using them in about 2000/01

Muesli lets guinea pigs feed selectively- you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink!

Mueslis contain alfalfa which is the wrong ratio of Calcium to Phosphorus to guineas and should be given as a treat- not a daily food
Why give dried carrot when you can give fresh?! (Thats just an opinion LOL!)

Wagg doesn't contain colourings, the Optimum is high in Protein so limit it to just a little, not sure about the Crunch but it is low in fibre- which they should be getting from lots of nice hay anyway :)

I know what you mean about the dried carrot, i thought that was a bit strange as well lol Thanks for the info, it all helps when i'm reading the labels :)
It's Wagg crunch i've ordered, if they send it that is with me being in the Highlands and Islands region and not contacting them first. I suppose if they don't it will be good as i can get in touch with sph and ask them about getting some of the better stuff up here. :)
