Yesterday I got a 30-day old guinea pig so that my other guinea pig will have a friend. As soon as I saw her, I got amazed by her beautiful black fur. When I got her home, she was all happy and even Would took hay from my hand. I put some water and hay for her overnight. She was wheeking and eating her hay but I’m not sure if she knew how to drink water. Also she was excited to get out and play with other guinea pigs. But I kept her in a separate cage for precaution. The next day, I had to go out so I left her with my family. Around 10 hours later they called and told me that she was dead. I keep feeling like it was my fault and I had to be there beside her. I don’t know what happened to her. I just found her in the corner of the cage with her eyes mid-closed. Was it a heart failure? She didn’t seem sick. She actually seemed very friendly and happy. She had hay and pallets beside her with water. Did I do something wrong? Should I have put some vegetables out for her?

I’m sorry for your loss. Her passing isn’t because of something you did so please stop second-guessing yourself. In fact you gave her what she wanted because she was obviously happy with the wheeking and so on. Take care of yourself

Although she wasn't with you long, it seems like you did everything you possibly could've to make her happy and comfortable in her final hours and I'm sure she's appreciative of that. Don't blame yourself, you were great for her while you had her. I'm so sorry for your loss
