COVID-19 My Coronavirus Mount Everest Climbing and Fundraising Challenge

Well done. I'm looking forward to the day when I can jog up 15 times in one go.

Not there yet, either! But I am sure that I will do at some point!
I guess that is going to warrant a special celebration with a very naughty bag of crisps... Something I am very much rationing myself on right now.

How are you doing @Wiebke?

I've done my first week which totals 315 metres. That's higher than Castle Crag in Borrowdale (lake district) which is very satisfying.

I haven't noticed it getting any easier though. Finding it physically hard is motivating in a strange way as it can only help increase my fitness.

Castle Crags looks rather impressive with the lake in the distance! I loved the holiday we spent touring the Lake District.

I had one day when I was so busy on the forum that hub had already gone to bed before I could do the second half, but otherwise I have managed daily 18 stairs rounds. Need to tot it up now...

Anyway, I can now run up the first 5 flights before I my legs are starting get wobbly (instead of walking) and I am starting to get puffy but that is a distinct improvement on last Friday, so I am not unhappy.

Muscles don't build up in just a few days and this is a daily (or currently still twice daily) heart rate booster for the long haul. As long as I am that bit fitter and stronger with every passing week, I am happy!
Still having pudding legs after each session... but at least they are not stiffening up! And I am not quite as totally puffed out afterwards.
Thankfully my weight has stopped climbing with me. Apparently it doesn't like the exercise. :bronco:

OK, so I have managed 348 metres so far, which is about the height of the valley town just outside Basel I went to school in Switzerland and lived for several years before I moved to the UK; actually it is the height of my 6th form college on a hill on the outskirts of the town.

I should have my lunch looking out over Lake Geneva by tomorrow (372 metres above sea level), have dinner on Lake Constance (395 m) and reach the top of Bodmin Moor (420 m) for Sunday lunch and the height of my home village in Switzerland where I grew up on Monday (491 m). Exmoor (519 m) the day after and then onto tackling Dartmoor before moving to the Peak District...

We should start posting pictures of places we are visiting virtually; it is more fun that way!

Thanks for the pictures, they literally illustrate our achievements. I can relate to the jelly legs.

Onwards and upwards!

Thank you ever so much! Every penny counts for TEAS!

Have whizzed right across Switzerland from the southeast to the Rhine Falls just after the exit of Lake Constance and climbed them in my afternoon session, so I can have dinner with a view across Lake Constance where Switzerland, Germany and Austria meet at the northeastern end of Switzerland.

Not quite on the scale of Niagara Falls, but pretty impressive nevertheless! Can I get extra brownie points for treading water? 😜
It was one of the places I took my hub sightseeing when he was spending his Easter holidays with me in the years before we got married.

Just paypal as much as you want to give to TEAS.

This is running for the rest of the year so I can hopefully celebrate big milestones along the way with generating some more donations as there won't be any fundraisers or income from the pet sitting business that @furryfriends (TEAS) is running with people staying mostly at home this year...

yes it’s such a worrying time for her sanctuary and her pet business! I’ll be sending a paypal for sure x

Will you be doing the Three Peaks (Great Whernside 736m, Pen-y-Ghent 694 m, Ingleborough 723m in the Yorkshire Dales and my husband say Pendle Hill 557m, (of Pendle Witches) East Lancs too!

I may leave that to @Posyrose so we don't always post about the same places. ;)
I just have to see where I end up on any given day...

I've done these four in real life but not all 3 peaks on the same day.

I've climbed Ingleborough several times and was there in January so I'll let you know when I've done that. It should be in another eight days.

My first big goal is Scafell Pike and I might do the three uk peaks with Snowdon and Ben Nevis

so you are near Snuffy Harod!

Anyway, despite having custard legs after any session, I have managed to climb the stairs 20 times every day in the last two days. I am getting that little bit fitter with every passing day!

Tonight I am able to 'visit' my nearly 80 years mother tonight at 450 m, enjoy the stunning view from the home my parents planned and built themselves (literally!) and that I have always felt very blessed to grow up with before I make my way to the hillock that is the highest point of the village to enjoy some more stunning views in all directions!

My home village lies in a side valley of the Rhine not far from Basel (Roger Federer's home town) in the foothills of the Jura mountains, which have given their name to the Jurassic age. You can see the characteristic chalky cliff faces ad rocky outcroppings dotted around in the distance. On a clear day you can see the Alps chain with their permanent snow caps across the Swiss Midland from the mountain tops on the horizon.

But it is nice to realise that only 3 days ago I was down in the valley nearly about 130 m below!

This is a picture I took 6 years ago at this time of year. The view is always different, depending on the weather and the time of day.

Anyway, this is as close as I can currently come to a family visit, so I might as well have a little stop-over in a place that is very special to me!

It's amaz

It's amazing how far you can travel from your own staircase. I've still got a few laps to go before I turn in. Enjoy your virtual visit home

It is so much more fun if you imagine going to places rather than just trying to run up your stairs... and it also gives you a better appreciation of what you are achieving.

Anyway, I passed the top of Bodmin Moor on my 6th stair climb this afternoon!
