As the title says, my lot are giving me sleepless nights.

After losing Ralph and Holly, I had finally managed to get Hazel bonded in to the group with Evie, Iris and Boris and they were rubbing along nicely after some initial issues between Iris and Hazel.

Just been away for a week and before I went away I was doing all the usual health checks and noticed Boris had lost some weight. So he had a trip to the vets quick smart to see what was going on. After examination the vet found many lumps and suspected lymphoma so Boris underwent FNA and we were told to keep an eye on him. His results have since come back negative, but the plan is to monitor his weight and if necessary he may need blood tests. His weight is slightly down but I’m trying to see if he regains it after his stay at the boarders.

The day before they went into boarding for my holiday Iris had a funny turn and couldn’t get comfortable. She had also lost weight in the 2 days since she was last weighed. So she had an emergency trip to the vets. And nothing was found. But while we were away our incredible pet boarder was regularly weighing her and found she was still losing weight. So she has been getting top up feeds throughout her stay, and I’m continuing with this. But despite eating well (hay, pellets, veggies) she has still been losing weight. So she’s been back to the vets for a further examination and as nothing was found, she’s had blood tests taken. I’m hoping we will get the results today and they may shed some light on what is going on.

This morning Evie (often got sensitive guts) is producing very soft misshapen poop so I’ve taken her off her veggies and her weight is also slightly down.

And Hazel refuses to be caught today so I’ve no idea how she’s doing weight wise but anyone so determined not to be caught is probably doing ok in my book.

So all in all, this little group are giving me sleepless nights. I don’t like mysteries. Especially ones that come with ever shrinking pigs and an ever decreasing bank balance.

How is it piggies seem to wait until you are going on holiday before they show they are sick.

Weight loss with no diagnosis is always such a worry. Hope all your piggies are feeling better soon and your vet gets to the bottom of what is ailing them.

Vet costs seem to have gone up alarmingly in the last few months. Our six weeks supply of meds for 3 piggies is now costing us almost £200. They are definitely worth it though.

Oh no. I hope things improve and your little ones give you a rest!
You’ve really had a rough time lately.
Sending love!

I know how you feel as Edward is currently giving me sleepless nights.I’m so sorry that your piggies are giving you cause for concern too. I hope they all stabilise soon (((hugs))) x

Poor you, one poorly piggie is bad enough but three, feel for you and hope they all pick up soon x

I hope that it's nothing serious and your piggies get better 🤞

Sending hugs! :hug::hug::hug::hug:

HUGS

I so feel for you! :(

Mystery weight loss without any obvious reasons/other symptoms is also my least favourite symptom because so many different things can be behind it.

O Vicky, I am so sorry that 3 piggies are giving you cause for concern.
Hope the vet can find some reason before the piggies and your bank balance shrink to nothing.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

I'm so sorry Vicki these bloody pigs cause us endless worry especially once they reach a certain age... sending many hugs and my bank balance also sends sympathy to yours, mostly on account of Blodwen who has never lost any weight except with doxycycline but despite this always has at least 2 major health problems going on at once!
Mystery weight loss and just being a bit off is the worst though, when you know there's something wrong but the vet can't find anything :( x

I'm sorry, I can heartily sympathise too regarding weight-loss both of piggies and of wallets. I've just had a vet trip with Squeaks and Winifred as they too had both lost weight last weekend. It looks like W is going to be on Metacam on a continuous basis, like Squeaks, so more £££ on that as well as the consultation cost having gone up too I think (£70 for a double appointment :yikes:)

I hope your piggies regain their lost weight and don't have anything to worry about going forward 🤞🙏

I'm sorry your piggies are causing concern.its never nice,I hope you can get to the bottom. Of it.sending you positive thoughts.xx

Hope you get some answers and see some improvement. They’re in excellent hands with you

Sending you hugs from another house full of piggies with various mysterious symptoms. I hope your mysteries are soon solved and are simple and inexpensive to treat. Good job they are such endearing little characters!

Iris has had blood tests that showed signs of some infection (site unknown) so she’s started on antibiotics and metacam to see if that shows signs of improvement. I’m still syringe feeding top ups but over the weekend she’s gained 40g. She has a long way to go (she lost well over 100g). But the early signs are promising.

Boris is back at the vets in an hour. I’m still top up feeding him but over the weekend his weight fell by another 35g so I’ve upped the frequency of his top ups and he’s managed to pull back about 10g of that loss. But I think he’s going to need further investigations today as there’s clearly something going on.

Evie is looking bright as a button and very cross that she’s not getting any of the lovely Emeraid she smells on Iris’ and Boris’ whiskers.

And I still can’t catch Hazel so I’m guessing she’s fine!

She could always be the clean up crew! Then Evie would get some Emeraid too. Sorry your piggies aren't doing well atm Vicki.

Boris has seen the vet today. Boris’ weight loss is not as dramatic as Iris’. So we’ve decided to try him on antibiotics for a week to see if he has some slight infection somewhere before going for blood tests. At the moment he’s about 70g down despite his syringe top ups. He’s a big lad, but the weight loss is noticeable. If he doesn’t stabilise or gain weight this week then he will be having blood tests.

I just wish they could tell us what’s going on!

Evie was trying to wash Boris’ whiskers this morning but he wasn’t having any of it! Iris is the cleanest syringe feeder I’ve ever had - no sticky whiskers for her so Evie won’t get much joy there. But that little black face at the bars begging me for some Emeraid is hard to resist!

I’ve finally sussed out why Iris is such a clean syringe feeder. She actively lifts her lip up and out of the way so that the syringe goes straight into her mouth without brushing against her lips/whiskers. I’ve never noticed any of the others doing it (Boris isn’t doing it at the moment). She’s a dream to give a top up feed to. Just wish it wasn’t necessary.

Good girl, Iris!

Virtually no evidence of Emeraid top up. Such a clean syringe feeder. And looking very perky today - she’s gained 60g since starting her antibiotics last week. Still got a way to go, though.
I do not believe those before and after photos Vicki! My lot needed the clean up crew after a syringe feed.

I kid you not. She’s on a clean tea towel in that photo as Boris had his syringe feed before her and he left mess everywhere including all over my dressing gown. She’s as good as gold. Lifts her left lip so I can pop the syringe into that side of her mouth, chews beautifully and when she’s finished there’s none of that messing around with trying to get the syringe in - she just turns around. She had 9 mls this morning In under 15 minutes. Wish Boris was as quick!

Iris needs to teach Boris her “table manners“ 😉
