My baby boys had a reoccurring abscess since Oct, it's on his lymph gland and even after thorough care, daily flushing, keeping it open for weeks it keeps returning and the vets said the tissue around is tough now and so he's in surgery to remove it.
I'm nervous how he'll be when I pick him up, have read the threads about syringe feeding but wondered if anyone has any extra advice.
I've split the cage so he's seperated from his buddy. Going to put him upstairs. Going to buy him a water bottle now.

I am so sorry to hear you and your boy are having such a tough time. I am thinking of you both and hope he has a very speedy recovery. X

Sending lots of healing vibes and love x

Just had a call from the vet and he's out of surgery and had a bit of food but they want to see him eat a bit more so I'm picking him up at 4:30 all being well!
They said he's had Staples in his wound!. Ouch poor baby.

oh my that's good start. little guys had bit food and it's not unusuall for them to keep a piggie or another animal in till system check. Eat wee poo. Bet you can't wait till 4.30. Great news. Big hugs

Glad to report my little Piggy is home and has even eaten some greens (even a poorly pig can't resist coriander right?).
He seems a bit fed up but has had a little explore of his new lair and done a few poos. I was quite shocked at the huge line of staples in his neck but they look tidy and my next appointment is on Thurs to have them removed.
I'm guessing he shouldn't go outside on the grass for a while?

Pleased he's home have been thinking of you, sounds good that he is eating and pooing. 2 out of my 4 back away from corriander as if it's poison, must be the smell! Sending very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I would recommend to wait until the wound has knitted in 10-14 days to prevent flies etc. from getting in there.

Thanks all, nice to have fellow piggies owners who understand!
Can't believe there are piggies out there who don't like coriander!

Mine think I'm trying to poison them if I give them coriander or mint for that matter!

Parsley's the way to go with mine!

Glad your piggie is on the mend. Been thinking about both of you most of day!

Got my boys out for a cuddle together tonight and they're clearly missing each other, they don't normally snuggle up together but they have been for ages now and show no signs of moving! Chattering away together too, I'm thinking after he's had his Staples out I'll put them back in together, what do you all think?

They have a special tool to take staples out - it's very easy to remove them with this tool :)

They look good, not too tight. I had them like that in my neck after my thyroid operation, I just felt a little tug on each one and they were gone. Is there anyway you can divide the cage so they can be side by side they are obviously missing each other.

:yikes: They do look fearsome - just seeing the picture sent a shiver through me! Glad PiggieOwner and piggieminder are reassuring about removing them.

Healing vibes for a swift recovery for your furry convalescent.

That photo of them snuggled together is just so
Paws crossed for a speedy recovery for your little chap xx

Have you asked if they can go together, they certainly wouldn't be able to pull those staples out. Awww they are so cute cuddling.
