Junior Guinea Pig
My 8 month old female pig Bree had reduced appetite on tuesday of this week. Started syringe feeding regularly, was taken to the vets. suspect GI stasis, given meloxicam and emeprid. thursday she was producing small but formed droppings. Early this morning woke to find she'd had a massive expulsion of diarrhoea overnight and rushed her to a closer vet. he did not suspect GI stasis rather an imbalance in the gut, he gave her sub-c fluids and injected Baytril. I was then prescribed Baytril for 2x daily along with supportive care. As I write this I have her in my arms, she's become so weak and floppy, I can no longer syringe feed her as she's not eating it. I think she's dying and I'm devasted that this is happening and don't know what to do. I think vets will only recommend PTS and at the moment unless she makes it to 9pm she cannot have her other antibiotic. I'm confused and annoyed at the misdiagnosis, as it seems the emeprid brought on the diarrhoea and seemingly is going to take a life sooner than she otherwise would if she had been on antibiotics sooner. Sigh, I'm at a loss, but any advice would be appreciated thank you.
