Need Your Help And Pictures For My Next Magazine Article!

I am writing an article about naming guinea pigs for the next Guinea Pig Magazine issue coming out in September.

Have you got guinea pigs with themed or unusual names? I would love to illustrate the article with a range of naming themes for groups or piggies with interesting names. Any donated pictures that are in the article will be credited, of course!

Please message me with a good and clear picture of a themed group or of a single piggy with an unusual or special meaning name, the names of your guinea pig(s), the theme behind the names and your own name for credits in the magazine.

I don't have any pictures for a naming theme - but just want to say - if you ever want to use any of my pictures posted on this forum - you are welcome to use them for the magazine .
 
Hi @Wiebke I've a few from my fostered piggies. They all had to be named after herbs/plants...so this is Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme, No Sage, because there was already a Sage and Onion (rabbits). The second pic is Delphinium and Geranium (Del and Gerry for short - sneaky!), They are both blind. Then my own three - Little Dude (who started life as Harpo), Chicco and Groucho (because of the eyebrows). You can use any or none and they're all named from left to right. My new phone takes a better pic than the old one.

There's an Instagram app for collages which is super handy to put multiple pics together. It's called Layout I think :D
 
If this pic is ever any use to you - feel free to use it anytime. I just think it's a really good picture, rather than being especially relevant to this thread. It is of Thyme though

The poor magazine editor has to crop and cram pictures into rather small odd places, so collages can cause problems as she often has to crop and squeeze a lot! ;)
 
For the rescue pigs l look on a baby naming website, currently l am using the letter D.
So we have Dino, Desmond, Danny, Donny, Dixie, Delilah, Darci and Demelza
It helps me to remember when they came in.
At the rabbit rescue they have themes, eg pop stars, plants and trees, currently on alcoholic drinks!
 
I don't really have themes or names as unique as those listed above- love them all by the way especially those inspired by Terry pratchett! I just kind of see what hits me when I see the piggy's personality etc- though I like it if that name also has something linked to me or my family likes/dislikes etc. For example my first rabbit was called:Bailey- it hit me at the time and also happened to be a special drink of my mum's. Or my rabbit Bigwig so called after the rabbit from watership down.

My first guinea pig was called 'Vinnie the Guinea' in memory of my cat: Vinny and him in turn of the artist Vincent Van Goph. (Don't ask why haha). Then came Mo due to the mohawk style hair he has going on and his rather funny/strange personality like that of Moe from the Simpsons. Steve was so called after my mum insisted we name him after a friend who was really nice and helped us get him etc.

I do have an idea of what I'd love to call my future pigs when I get them.

Bellamy- after a character in the 100 series.
Sebastian- after a protagonist in a horror game favourite of mine.

Good luck with the next article and like others have said if you ever need any pictures that I've posted on here of Mo or Steve please do. :) you'll have to let me know when this issue is out so I can grab a copy!

IMG_0827.webp IMG_1837.webp Alby from an old Irish word meaning white. I just really liked the name and it suited him. Sadly we lost Alby in August last year. You can use either picture if you like. Behind him in the top picture was his cagemate Buddy. (Still living) Julie Mair.
 
Mine were already named by the rescue as they came in around Christmas time.

Mistletoe (blonde and white) and Jingle (orange).

Put loads on in the hope that one may be clear enough for you to use. Camera always takes aaages to click!

My two sows were named Calliope and Calipso, maybe from the rescue or from their first owners, I don't know...
I love these names belonged to two beautiful goddesses of the ancient Greece; Calliope was the goddess of the Poetry and the one who inspired Omero and also Dante Alighieri, a famous poet who composed The Divine Commedy, who prayed to her in two parts of his work. Calipso, too, was a goddess, an immortal woman...
These two sows looked very beautiful even when they were rescued underweight and scared, maybe these names were chosen for this reason and I have kept their greek names although at the end of my grammar school I swore that I would have kept myself FAR from the ancient greek (and latin) which had caused my nightmares for 5 long years! (I had bad marks!). Maybe it is my punishment!

From left to right: Fudge, Lucky (last one left of her litter, and no one wanted her because she is a red eyed white), Sweetie, Cutie, Snowy. And one poor carrot cottage...

Snowy, (snowball wasn't masculine enough for a boar according to my partner.) is a white eyed Rex, who's favourite past time is leading the herd and cuddles. On a lap he turns in to a fluffy, cuddly marshmallow. Named because of his fur, despite being a bit on the cream side!

Cutie (short haired) and Fudge (Rex). Cutie was originally named Toffee, but my partner was adamant on the name of Cutie. She has grown in to her name, being a licky, cuddly piggy who will relax on my lap for hours. She is a cutie and she really knows it! Fudge has three ASBOS and barely listens to even the herd leader. She tolerates cuddles for about three seconds and develops extra legs for wriggling and squirming away (or it feels like it anyway.) Named because her colour is similar to vanilla fudge.

Sweetie, because I love sweets...and she has a tan mark on her bum which is just adorable! She is a genuinely, sweet natured piggy.

Is this what you are looking for? I don't generally use themes, but go on personalities...

I may be able to include this as an example for names mainly based on endearments. ;)

@Claire W is covering for piggies starting with the same initial. :)

I have adopted a Dolly Mixture and Cinder Toffee (Ffwlbri and Tesni); Pine and Fir (Hafren and Nesta); Chapati (Terfel) - thankfully by then Tracy from RNGP Welfare was out of cheeses and into breads; Flora, Fauna and Merryweather (Myfina, Morwenna and Mererid); Pudding (Tanni); Carron (Scottish river - Caron)... amongst increasingly more exotically named rescue piggies! ;)
Taffy was simply sow 4a; there were about 75 pregnant sows arriving in the rescue in that week from two large rescue actions to find names in a hurry!

Baby naming sites are one of the resources that I am listing in the article. :)

PS: When you get really desperate, you can of course use a list of Shakespearian characters... That should keep the rabbits going for a while! :D
