Neutering a boar

p.s. that was a long post - I could have easily condensed that....! lol mallethead

It is for that reason 50/50 chance I would never put my Biscuit through it, too risky, and he's happy sharing his cage with his toy panda, talking to the females (he tells them off if a spat breaks out), I'm not having any more males, he's my last one, nothing personal, but it's much easier for me to deal with just one gender, and I happen to prefer female piggies..
Don't get me wrong, I love Biscuits to bits, but i'm not willing to create anymore upheaval in his life, to be put in the same position x amount of years ahead..

Oh how awful! Are you sure he did not pass away?:(

When she originally asked me she said if I didn't want him she might take him to a rescue. It was left that she was going to ask the kids (4 & 6 - really?!) but they wouldn't mind she was certain because they didn't really like this one!

I heard no more, but was going to check back with her when I'd sorted housing to be ready to take him.

Sorry Dh but this woman is a plank, I feel so bad for the two baby guineas she now has - bubbies are so much more fragile than big pigs and these kids could easily hurt them :(

Good old pet shops, selling pigs to all and sundry.

Good luck finding the big boy, chances are if he is in a rescue he will be well cared for though - I am not local to you but wonder if anyone who is could possibly name rescues and you could try and find him?

I've commented on her FB photo asking if they are both new or if she's found him a mate, but I know they are babies as they are both small, do when she replies I will ask where he is.

Well, they are 2 new baby boys, they have been in the run all day with the older boy hoping that they all get along. If they don't he is coming to me :)

How quickly can you tell if they will get on? I want a boar to go with my single one but I will wait til I know about this one. If he stays there, I will look for a local boar dating service.

Oh. They came from PAH. Said that from the 2 from a rescue last year, 1 died & 1 is grumpy :(

Oh dear Lord. Of my 15 pigs, one has died (it's called nature/old age, we will all die one day!, and three are currently grumpy!

I do hope they are actually both boys if they came from PAH, otherwise she may soon have many more piggies!

Well it will not work as a trio rarely do. No wonder he is grumpy having little children holding him. They may be rough as they are so young. I cannot understand why she got more guinea pigs when they have not bonded with this one.

I hope you manage to get this poor 'grumpy' fellow, who obviously just needs a bit of love and understanding.

I have recently neutered my three boars. They all live in the same room with 5 sows. They are divided by c&c cubes and at the moment, they live in 2 pairs, 1 trio, and 1 boar who is waiting his 6 week post-op wait to be over.

I thought a lot about neutering or not. It is a risk. But I thought that living next to (and smelling and seeing) sows was cruel too. Cruel is perhaps too strong a word.

Good luck.
