Another update.

I have decided to Bond Dot and Burnie using the wire top for their new cage that i am preparing this week ready for friday. I am going to put a freshly washed fleece as the base layer because itl be taking place in my kitchen on tiled flooring. Their will be two d.i.y hideys made from two new boxes. Each will have two exits. Il place them one at each end of the bonding area and i am going to put a pile of hay in the centre. Does this sound like a good plan?
 
Another question is, if they do live together, burnie loves red bell pepper and dot leaves it for ages. Burnie will be stealing it for sure, so dot will get none and burnie will have too much lol. I use it as their main vit c source
 
Bonding might not happen on friday. Been asked to work friday night 😡 trying to get out of it, but lets see 👍 havnt had a night job in ages, there must be something out there making me angry

Having done numerous bondings I think when you do the very first intro in the bonding penit is best to have nothing but a pile of hay in the middle. After about an hour if it is going well, that is when you put in hideys. You don’t want anything in the way or anywhere to hide when you do the first intro.

I agree about dot learning to eat quicker. My first boar I had neutered used to spend a good 2-3 hours eating his veg. It didn't take him long to learn that if he didn't speed up he didn't eat :))

Please anyone let me know a list of good signs and bad. I know blatent ones but put them anyway. I know there is a guide for bonding but i take in info better from replys for some reason.

Its going to be interesting, Burnie is very hyper due to his age. And Dot is very timid but can be very bossy. Dot is 3 in march 2019. And i think burnie is like 10 months now

It was very helpful because some forum members were so helpful and answered my panic questions very promptly.

Have a really good read of these. Prepare fully. And that includes not only the pen etc, but you and your wife, too. Even I, who have done many bondings, get a bit uptight. All the chasing, squeaking, nipping etc can cause nerves to be frayed. It is noisy and at times base and feral. Good luck.

Thanks, i have told her not to get panicky and quit too soon. Our first pigs rescued from a school used to chase loads, and we jus gave up thinking it would never work, we never knew back then about the cage size problem with two boars, i feel bad i never knew to try a bigger cage. But saying that, one did have chronic respiratory problems that i didnt know would spread or not, and after one passed i did try and bond dot with the 6 year old boar who was alone, but he kept biting her. Like warning bites, but you could tell he was about to snap. Shame because she loved him.

I have 100% confidence in Dot, its all on how Burnie reacts really. When i never knew how fast pigs can impregnate i used to get dot and burnie out together, there was no aggression atall and they ended up eating together after roughly an hour. But after learning about how play dates are a no no too, i stopped it. Burnie is older now so could go differently i dont know
