So I'll be honest this post is going to very vague for the time being, but the exciting stuff is.... I'm GETTINF TWO MORE PIGGIESS...

The reason that this is vague as they are going to be from a rescue which I volunteer at, and it is part of my 'contract' that is do not share nor disclose information about any animal in the rescue to anyone outside of it...

But the countdown is on.. 1 week remaining!

IMG_1379.webpNo have began to put together a space for them to live, and this is what Ive come up with!

Hopefully in the future I would like to merge the two spaces together and create a herd including Honey and Willow (if anyone has any advice on bonding two pairs I'd be grateful, I'm assuming you follow the same procedures as bonding two piggies?)

But anyway... watch this space... more piggy updates coming as I finish of their cage and they arrive home next week 😅

SO EXCITED 🎉🎉🙆🏻🙆🏻

I too am hoping to bond two pairs of females soon. Right now they are side by side. Can't wait to see pictures!
Okay, please keep me updated on your success! Would love to hear about it 😊 And it's so hard because I have photos of them but just not allowed to share yet 😭 I can't wait to show them off! They're gonna make such a beautiful little herd if I can get them all bonded 😍

How exciting- looking forward to news of their arrival and pictures.

I bonded 2 pairs a few months ago.
The bonding threads on the forum were brilliant as was the advice and support of other forum members.

I had a thread going while bonding- I will look to see if it’s still there.
It was probably more stressful for me than the girls but I have ended up with a happy herd of 4 beautiful sows.

Thank you as always for your great support, it means a lot, did you just follow the same procedure you would for bonding two individuals? I.e place in an unterritorial place and monitor them all? I would love to have them all together eventually as I'm also thinking for Willows future, as in the grand scheme of things, and realisticly, Honey isn't going to be around for a huge amount of time longer and with their age gap I don't want Willow to grieve alone (when Honey was in for her op, Willow didn't eat or drink much all day and stayed hidden, it was horrible to see)

So the set up is complete! Just need to do a clean of the food bowl as Ive previously used it for Honey and Willow, and then the newbies come home on Wednesday! I will be putting the piece of fleece over the top until they settle in, I'm so excited to bring them home! Ive also used wood shavings in their hay tray as this is what they're used to so I thought this would give them a little familiarity considering they have never seen fleece before!

so finally I can share the new arrivals with everybody!

Here is Lois IMG_1276.webp
She's the more lively one of the two and definitely the dominant piggy, I've already received piggy kisses from her and she said much more settled when being handled. A quirky characteristic is that she doesn't have the typical guinea pig ears, they're rather stumpy, has anyone else experienced this? As long as it causes her no problems it doesn't bother me, I think it's rather cute :)

And here is Laine
IMG_1283.webp

She's much quieter and timid but again a very sweet girl and I love her little crest 😍

I can't wait to learn their personalities and figure out what's behind those adorable faces! I'm already so in love!

They seem to be taking well to the life of cosy fleece and indoor accommodation and have already been exploring their cage so all good signs 😊

I'm SO HAPPY!

I'm actually a bit disappointed all of a sudden, Ive found what look to be live or mites on Laine, literally just a few where the crest is, but Ive booked them both in for a complete health check tomorrow with my usual vet so hopefully if there is something it can get sorted :)

They are both so beautiful.
They have landed on their paws with you and I’m sure they will settle quickly.
Hope the lice/ mites are easily dealt with.

The photos don't do them justice these were the ones I was able to take during volunteering but I'm sure there will be better ones soon!

I didn't even tell their story I got too excited 🤣 (I'll make another comment next explaining their past)

And fingers crossed! I couldn't actually see any anywhere else, nor on Lois, but I didn't have too much of a deep look I'm sure they're stressed enough as it is let alone me brushing through their coat 🤣 But I hope I've got it early and it's potentially just come from the straw or something that is used in the hutches at the rescue who knows.

How you holding up since Merab's passing? Hope you're looking after yourself x

So the girls are settling in very well and look as if they love the fleece life! I have a sheet over their cage so I'm hoping that's making them feel a bit safer. But I realised I hadn't told you their story.

These girls were partly rescued and partly surrenderd, the previous owner phoned the rescue saying all sorts of things about these two, at one point claiming they were 10 years old 😐 She kept changing her mind about wanting and not wanting them, whether she was going to drop them off or have them picked up... the final phone call was "I've left then on the doorstep so you'll have to get them"

The story was a lot more elaborate than that, but there's no need to go into great detail..

This isn't to shame that person, in no way do I agree with this, but is not my place nor job to shame or hate this person. All I can say is at least she was in contact with the correct people so they could both be rescued and bought to safety... some people don't even do this...

If anything I have one thing to say to the woman, thank you so much! Because by you allowing them to be rescued you've enabled them to come into my home, and me and my parents have just called in love with Lois and Laine 😍

They have really landed on their pretty girlie feet! It’s always nice when you hear a happy ending x

At least the previous owner made an attempt to get the piggies somewhere else rather than simply dumping them.
From what you say it sounds as if she needs our sympathy.

Glad they found a great new home.
I’m doing fine - missing Merab but bearing up.
Thank you for asking

AWWW they are gorgeous!! :love::drool::luv:

please don't be disappointed with your new babies - the vet will probably prescribe some ivermectin (xeno) to put on the girls, my little squiggle (13weeks) was diggered with mites after i got her home, 1 dose of Xeno50 was enough to rid her of those pesky critters! Orca had some too as a precaution. although she didn't seem to have any at all.
lice are very opportunistic & will appear when the piggies are stressed (as with hooomans moving house is very stressful).

give the fleeces a hot wash & clean out their cage and again thoroughly after a day or two. its not a nice thought, but not really any different to us getting nits/headlice as humans.

I love a happy ending too
congratulations on your new furballs. xx

Thank you for this message, very helpful, is there a particular cleaner I should use in the cage or is just a thourough clean sufficient? And would they end up infecting Honey and Willow who are positioned above their cage?
Hopefully the vet trip today will sort them out :)

Yeah exactly, some people don't have the decency to even put them in a safe place 😥 At the rescue we really do see some horrible things 😢

Just your usual cleaner should be OK,another a good clean a few days after treatment should get rid of any eggs/newly hatched lice. Some vets will prescribe 2 treatments of xeno just to be on the safe side.
Ask the vet about your other two. But if you always handle your original ones first the chances they have lice too are slim-especially if they're above the new girls :)
If it was static lice then you would do better to change the hay- this sounds like running lice that came from the rescue, so I wouldn't worry about your hay either :)
Good luck at the vets.
Your girls really are beautiful  xx

The vet trip confirmed running lice and she explained the chances of infestation of Honey is Willow is slim as basically the lice don't want to leave the piggy and they would have to fall off, then run around to find another pig basically... Ive been given treatment and will be treating them tomorrow morning as I then can do a full cage clean.
Lice or not, I'm so in love 😍

I would treat them now if I were you - the treatment can start working straight away then& clean them out tomorrow as planned.
Is it the spot on xeno treatment you have?

It will kill off any weaker lice & stop a few hours of breeding time too ;)
The lice will be mostly on their bodies & very few in/on the environment yet anyway as they are so new to you.

I usually brush the hair backwards with my hand/fingers & put the spot on treatment on the skin, in the parting left in the hair. Along between the shoulders and at the back of the neck/between the ears area as the guineas can't nibble there as well as easily reached parts. Usually seems successful.

Glad they got on OK :wub: xx
