I have had some 5x2 fleece liners made. They are from a company I've used before but never had 5x2 before.

I've done the first washers on a 30 degrees.

However the fleece seems to be bunching up. I've tried to reshape and give a good shake but still the same. Almost like the fleece has excess now. I've circled the excess bit in the pic. I don't want to complain if that is how bigger liners are

Is that normal for larger liners?

Mmmm that doesn’t look right
They should remain the same size …..
Thank you. I don't want to be an awkward customer but I'm not happy with it after the initial washes but don't know enough about sewing to know if it's normal. It is a different fleece each side. The other side doesn't seem quite as bad.

Our old (6yrs) big 2x4 fleeces have gone like this, but I wouldn’t expect it from a new fleece liner.
I did sew ours myself & accept that they are a bit wonky anyway.

Also I know it still doesn't help how we feel but I guess the company would prefer you to let them know and get more return business than not saying anything and never go back to them 🤔

Hmm not very helpful :(

"Thank you for your email, unfortunately this does happen with larger liners, the zorb inside shrinks more than the fleece. I would recommend giving them a good reshaping after washing however it will never be perfect"
Not impressed.
I would respond with a stronger worded email stating that this is in now way made clear on their website or when ordering.

They should warn people about this when they are ordering, you do need to pull it into shape while it's damp.
I made some pee pads with zorb, only 1 x 1 grid size and they went like that on the first wash. I never used zorb again as I didn't think it was suitable for the job.
It does happen on the bigger liners with wadding but not as bad, my 4 x 2s went misshapen. I now stick to combinations of 3 x 2, 2 x 2 and 1 x 2 as my cages are varying sizes and I can always find a combination to fit and they seem to survive washing better.

Thank you. I am very tempted to return and order from elsewhere as it was quite a big order. I don't want to be akaward but if they are like that after the initial washing!. I am washing the 2nd one today so will see how that does.

This one is particularly bad. The pigs will feel they are climbing mountains 🤣🤣

I do wonder whether to return and order elsewhere but bit at a loss

I have washed the second one on an 800 spin and a quick wash and that seems fine! Giving it a second wash now with a higher spin. Will also wash the third.

If they both are okay may see if can return the dodgy one

Ours are Zorb inners too, I agree with Piggieminder the bigger the pad, the more it wrinkles as time goes on, all our small ones have not wrinkled up at all. 2x2 CC size and under.
Also guilty of never pulling them back into shape. Just shake everything before hanging, here.

Good luck, I hope they let you return the 1st one you washed.

I'm no professional but I've sewn quite a lot of stuff for my piggies and yeah, Zorb shrinks *a lot*... You really need to pull and stretch it back after washing, but it will still bunch up a little with time. I think most companies suggest washing at low temperatures to minimize shrinkage and that's just not feasible, unless you have a Holy Grail sanitizing detergent that is pet safe and has no fragrance. Best I could find is a fragrance-free enzyme detergent or the ones for babies, but I still wash them on hot and alas, they end up bunching.
Ironically the biggest ones I made (an attempt at a 4x4 that I ended up cutting back in half cos it was a pain to wash) did not bunch, but I didn't use Zorb in those. Our local fabric store sells a material that is used for mattress/couch protectors in hospitals and care homes, it's rather thin and hay sticks to it like crazy so it needs fleece on top, but it is perfect (it has a waterproof backing, some kind of absorbing material, and a quilted fabric on top) and I've never bought another liner since. It's also a fraction of the price of Zorb. For the really heavy duty stuff I even added a layer of Zorb but it was overkill and those liners did bunch up more, so it really is a matter of one material shrinking and the other stretching with time and use unfortunately, but one wash does seem excessively early and quite a lot for a professionally made one. In case you can't return it I would try washing it again on cold and stretch it to shape when wet to see if it gets any better but once it's bunched, it will not go away completely :-/
