Okay so I’ve had my piggies for a couple of weeks. They’re cool and everything but I’ve jsut witnesses one of them try and jump up a solid wall. Like a cat. She’s literally just jumping up to the wall about 30cm in the air. Is that normal? Not popcorning, like she’s trying to jump over something but just against the wall. She’s tried to jump onto me a couple of times too.

She could be very frightenend if she's a jumper.

Thanks for the advice! I think it’s a bit odd if she is frightened as she’s jumping onto me - and I sit very still talking to her all the time in a calm voice etc.

Depends on the type of jump as Wiebke as said. I have seen piggies vault things to get over them but jumping up a wall is strange behavior. Is she particularity nervous at all?

Hiya and welcome to the forum. I'm no expert I'm afraid so I'm not sure why she should be doing this. My late naughty Pedro loved to try & jump off things, he knew no fear & would try jump off settee, my knee, my hands etc... ( I stopped him of course). He wasn't frightened, was very tame & loved cuddles. But sometimes he thought he could fly! Xx

She’s not nervous, no. Shes really tame, climbs onto us for cuddles etc. However she tried to jump onto my shoulder yesterday when I was sat on the floor. Or the wall. Who knows?! What should I do to make sure she’s not scared?

the type of jump is like a rabbit would jump to get up onto something but there’s nothing to get up onto. She’s not being chased or trying to get away from the other guinea when this happens.

As far as making them feel safe - my two pigs LOVE to have a canopy over their cage!
As natural prey animals, they feel safe and secure that way...

Just drape a blanket or something like that over a corner of the cage and watch them get cozy and yawn under! It's so cute!

Could she be excited? Of my pigs used to popcorn into walls all the time... less like she was trying to go over them and more like she just leaped in a direction and happened to run into one!

Has she had a fright, ? Sunden trama can do strange things
I had a pair of pigs (molly and Jake ) many years ago that had been tramatsed

Molly would jump very high in the air to avoid being handled, poor old Jake had been blinded he was that frightened of people that he would colaps and for all intent and purpose he was just like a dead pig
