New Owner could use some advice.

nooooo 😭 caramilk has what the vet think was a polyp in her anus and she pooped it out..... it just hanging out. they were unable to push it back in. its gonna cost over $1000.... i didn't have the heart to put her down right away. she's still walking around and eating and even POOPING past the polyp. not seemingly in pain at all... i paid to have her boarded and given pain killers. at the very least give her 13 more hours... but i gotta go in tomorrow morning. see what the vet offers. they might be able to do the surgery with no xrays or blood tests.. its very risky but it will be cheaper. probably around 700.... i think I'm gonna have to have her put down. its already cost me $400 with the vet visit boarding and meds... if it can be another 700.. i can afford it but out not much more then that... $1000+ is just too much more 😢... i hate signing the dotted line and signing their death warrent like that....

Oh no I’m so sorry you are facing having to make this decision. Sending healing vibes and hugs. I hope something can be done. 🤞🏻

browsing the forums for anyone with similar problems.... even with the surgery they only made it 8 days.... maybe a miracle of it can be pushed back inside but then i still gotta get surgery that she might not survive and if so it seems only a couple of weeks at best.... its really just too much money........ the chances are extremely slim. I'm gonna have to have her put down before work tomorrow.... i dont regret spending the 300 to have her boarded and given some pain killers. I'm sure she's feeling pretty good right now. gonna give her some treats and blue berries before i sign the paper work..... I'm gonna hear out the vet see what they can do but. ultimately i dont think anything is a good option. i'd be doing it for me then for her. it would cost me like 2-3 weeks pay. the less it costs the more risky the surgery. minimum would seem to be like 1100-1200... she says she would like to see what happens if she just cut it off stitched it and stuffed it back in... but anesteia and all that still gonna run me at least 1000 its where most of the money is.... right now I'm just gonna wait and see what tomorrow brings...

I know zero about this, I'm sorry. I don't suppose you could just leave Caramilk as is for a day or two on pain meds, if she otherwise seems to be enjoying life? It's probably irresponsible of me even to suggest.

I saw your post earlier and now it occurs to me that the relevant members may not even have seen your post because not on a medical board.
@Freela is also in Canada and a Moderator
@Piggies&buns is in the UK as many forum mbrs are so probably not available yet but she responds to medical queries with the relevant experience and knowledge
Ditto @Wiebke so I hope one of them gets back to you within the next few hours.

I’m sad to read about Caramilk
You’ve given her a loving home when she just wouldn’t have survived if you hadn’t found her
I sure one of the special members will be along to advise you

I’m sorry. Sending you hugs. You gave her an amazing life. I remember when you found her. 😍

Fingers crossed and hoping she pulls through for you! She is clearly with the best possible person to give her the best possible chance!

i give you the $800 piggy.. i know what you're thinking.. no she isn't for sale. she was just too full of life to put her down for such a low cost (400 for the surgery and 400 for the over night stay cause it happened on a sunday night right before they closed.) all she has to take is painkillers with anti inflammatory medicine. its the honey flavor tho.... i know she dislike that one but it was all they got and beggars can't be choosers. She got home cleaned her cage spotless fresh bedding (I'm not putting her kitchen in to keep a better eye for blood or anything like that. gonna clean it daily anyways) first thing she did was run to her water start drinking and then went to munching her hay.... all great signs... I'm sure she's exhausted... i know i am.

I donno if it help but she got a last meal before the vet came in and gave me the much better estimate. a feast of cilantro blue berries, rapberries and banana and apple flavored pellets... she was munching away not a care in the world... i knew she had a fighting chance in her. i anted up at the table took a gamble and so far the flop is good.... but i still have 2 river card to cross. if i can get her pass the two week mark, i think we'll be in the clear... if not... i did everything i could. best i can hope for is she passes in her sleep at home. but if she makes it I'm recording this in the vet emergency thread just to let people know theirs a chance... cause the track record here is dismal. but it seems to be very rare and as the vet told me. thats not a good sample size so hopefully caramilk will change that... i found her in the bush surviving on her own from wild animals and thunder storms and summer heat... she's a fighter....

Hey guys I recently FOUND a guinea pig in a local park. I'm in canada so it was basically a death sentence come winter (assuming something didn't get it before then.) so I captured it in a net and took it home. My gf already owns two rabbits so had food for it. been doing some research on line to find difference between the two care wise. So far seems they very similar but guinea pigs need more vitamine C. been feeding her pieces of melon i had at the time. Its super friendly and trusting. has NEVER tried to bite me even when i have to pick her up when she doesn't want to be to clean her cage. I've had it for about 4 days now. Any advice you guys can have would be Greatly appreciated :D

Btw her name is caramilk :P DP is her in the bush before being captured.
I'm assuming you took ownership which is wonderful as all pigs need a good home. It's pretty simple really. Pellets, Timothy hay and fruits and veggies. Piggies can't make vitamin C so they need foods with it (apple, strawberry, blueberry orange) make sure you give fruits in moderate portions as tons of sugar is bad. As for veggies celery, kale, romaine lettuce, Brussel sprout, broccoli for example. Before feeding make sure you look up what they can and can't eat. Onions, potatoes, rhubarb are big no nos

This is brilliant news. I’m sending healing vibes to her for her continued recovery. Sounds like she’s doing ok. Bless her. She’s a fighter and a little stunner ❤️

She survived the night. She was eating and drinking when i left for work. Even took pellets from me, albeit with attitude but thats also a good sign... Slept on her pile of hay last night. Shes pooping but the are small and deformed. I'm assuming from the swelling still there. But no blood drops anywhere...

Its good that there's no blood, she survived the night and she's eating an drinking. The small, deformed poops represent the time she was having the operation and not eating. They will return to normal soon as long as she keeps eating.
