New Shed Day

I love going out and sitting in the shed with the piggies, it’s my happy place!
Just been out to make sure that are ok. Heat pads are in and extra hay, I will feel happier once it’s insulated and has a heater. I am so invested in these 2 now (I am an absolute softy). Both came out to say hello and my little girl came with me to make sure that were warm enough. Going to make some curtains for the shed as well. Glad I can post on here because my friend think I’m nuts spending so much money on Guineas 😂😫

We all definitely understand it!
My shed also has curtains!

Aww, this thread makes me happy. They’ll be like two little bugs in a rug this winter ❤️

Heating fitted to mains and insulation almost sorted. These piggies will not be cold! 2 heat pads in as well just to make sure.
I'd love to see photos when it's all done!

Advice please, we have bought polystyrene insulation for the ceiling and the walls. There are 2 areas in the shed where the boys have access to the walls and I’ve noticed they like to have a good chew on the wood so we aren’t putting the insulation there, what else could I use in those areas which won’t harm them if they chew it? Is cork any good?x

My boys set up is the same as yours (hutch in shed with shed floor as play area). I have the play area with c&c grids all the way round the edge to stop them being able to get access to the wood of the shed. You can then insulate the walls behind the grids without the worry of them being able to chew anything

I had initially planned to use cork all over the inside of their hutch and did still apply it to the underside of the ceiling and the underside of the floor (both inaccessible) and on the partition wall of the sleeping area. I decided, though, that it wasn't such a good idea as I had (stupidly) treated it with Osmo oil to seal it from possible water and mould. (Although Osmo oil is supposed to by animal safe, I was worried about them chewing the cork along the exposed edges.) So all the areas I had applied cork to, I then covered with lino. Could you do that? Or a thin sheet of plywood ontop of the cork, given that cork is a good insulator? (Or plywood ontop of the polystyrene in those areas?)

Ply wood could be an option or the c&c grids It is just 2 areas that they can get to as we adapted the original hutch and blocked off most of the walls. Thanks everyone I will look into all options 👍🏻

Good idea! We have some Lino left, would that be ok taped over the polystyrene insulation?x

Shed is finally finished (I’ll post some photos soon). After a week on guinea pig holiday the boys are back and seem happy to be home (they don’t give much away apart from a few wheeks when we got to feed and clean the shed out). Think a hierarchy is becoming more noticeable but some days I am still not sure. Tonight snowy is in the upper hide and mittens is in the lower area happily sat on his snuggle safe pad inside his upside down cardboard box. Shed is staying at a nice 14 degrees and we are adding extra hay and 2 heat pads to make sure they are warm enough .
