Not everyone will have a thunderstorm - it's a magic mix of getting all the right ingredients together at the right time and going in the right direction. However, some of these storms where they occur tonight could be very dangerous indeed..

Last wednesday, 3 Supercells (think USA-style storms) were spawned on the Pennines and tracked over to Tyneside and thence into the North Sea..... with goilfball size hail that smashed conservatories and dented cars; frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes (and damage to property) AND torrential rain (surface water flooding) There were also gale force short-term winds associated with the gust front in front of the storm

Please ensure your animals are safe and secure from the weather tonight.

You can follow any electrical storms progress (via lightning) on here
http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime

And you can follow rain developing on here

The atmosphere over the UK is very unstable - storms could break out and develop very rapidly in the space of 30mins anywhere in the risk zones. However as the night continues, you will be able to track progress and find out if you are at serious risk. from the above sites.,,,,,

There is also a useful link below to a thread on a weather forum that is worth monitoring........

Please take care to keep all your loved ones safe.

Tank you for the warning, and can I add that lighting map is fascinating. I've just added it to my faves. Northern Italy is having one massive massive storm right now!

Thank you, how can I find out if I'm affected? My piggies aren't out doors I'm just curious!
Oh thinking about my neighbour is away for the night and her rabbit is outdoors..

Thank you for those helpful links. I check the met office this morning and apparently there's no storms until next week, but the weather changes very quickly! I never used to be this interested in weather before piggies!

Go to the Metoffic warning site and see if your region is included....

As to whether your house/road/neihghbour is at risk....that's what is called "nowcasting"....None of us will know we are in the direct line of a storm rm unless we follow the pattern/tracking/direction of the storms as they develop this evening using the lightning map and the weather radar I have inked to above.

I agree - Lightining map is rather addictive! If you actiavte the speaker icon at top RH corner, you also get an audible "click" everytime a lightning stirike is recorded in Europe.....when you have storms going on like Italy atm it's mesmerising!

Enjoy!

I don't understand it all lol. I am in Crawley, West Sussex, if someone else can read it and understand could you be kind enough to tell me if we are at risk please?

Well I only got home about 50 mins ago to get a message from my neighbour as our sun umbrella brew over, hit the back patio doors, missed the hutch. so it's got windy but it doesn't seem like it, also it seems like we're going to have some 'weather' as my dear mother used to say.

I've just looked on the lightening map thing, there is a yellow dot near us (just up the road) though I have no idea what this means lol.. I'm assuming it means thunder/lightening?

Oh just had some thunder, the normal pathetic quick one.. Don't know why I'm so interested as storms scare me lol

we had an amazing storm the night before last here. i've never seen lightning like that! had another storm a few hours ago aswell. i love thunderstorms :luv:

There was nothing exciting where I live, but good for the bunny rabbit across from us

Woke up at 3 am to heavy rain, very very loud thunder, and extremely bright lightning shining through the window. I daren't look out the window to see the lightning I was too sacred more than anything else.

Horrible thunderstorm here between 3am - 4.30 am. I say horrible because I hate them, they scare me even more at night and I know the exact times because I was going between hiding under my sheet in bed & looking out the window!

Well, after the met office saying no storms for us until next week, there was an almighty one last night (apparently...I slept through!). My Auntie's house was struck! :yikes:

Ours hit at 5am, totaling the piggies gazebo, so I had to repair that so they can go out once the lawn has dried out.

another one here through the night aswell. i was already awake anyway and bored so wanted it to go on longer so i could watch! but it didn't last very long this time.

Oops didn't see this but I knew there was a storm coming, could just tell by the sky earlier on. It scared my poor dog as usual and I thought I heard one of the piggie's having a chunter :/

Oh haven't had one here yet, but my Dad just text me and told me to bring a brolly when we go out tomorrow :( Just typical.

@AnnaF Some possible strorms forecast to be imported from France over the south east tomorrow aternon/evening...but probably not serious strength/ may not even happen. However by all means take the brolly...that should ensure you get a lovely sunshiney day!

There is however a risk of storms over Wales/Glocs tonight......if that's any help?

Evening is fine we'll be on our way home by then, we're going to truck fest, so need the good weather as it's all outside. Planned it months ago.
