Hi all

I posted last week Bloat - help!

Jack has been up and down. Another trip to the exotic vet last night showed from x ray that his gas has massively improved and has literally gone, he also feels squishy. In himself he is also largely the same. He has really good days and poops loads and then stops pooping again on other days.

The vet and I are still scratching our heads as he has now been over 24 hours with only about 10 poops, with just 1 in about 8 hours. I'm going out of my mind. I'm giving just metaclopramide and zantac now and will give metacam once he poos again. Still massaging him using a vibrating pillow and electric toothbrush. He is eating periodically (he eats more with some encouragement as he prefers newly given hay) and I am giving critical care. He wants veg (now limited to coriander) and in himself is largely the same, but a bit more skittish at times.

I've booked him in for speed dating to find a new friend on Saturday but me and the lady who does it both agree he really needs to improve a bit before we do it. Unsure if it may stress him out or be just what he needs. He's a fairly dominant boar who likes to rumble if he's in front of another pig but he can be a bit wimpy too.

Can anyone think of anything? I'm going to call the vet again shortly if I don't get a flood of poops as we did discuss an ultrasound. He is weeing normally.

I'm going insane! I'm working from home today to monitor him. I've looked at other threads but I can't think of anything else to try. Thank you in advance

Are you giving the metachlopormide and zantac daily longterm?

I have been for a week now (zantac for a week and met since Saturday) following the vets advice. Only one poo today in about 13 hours or so. He is a bit more fed up bow but I keeo encouraging him to eat and checking him, plus he must be uncomfortable. Still waiting for the vet to call back and only regular vets are available sooner so I'm at a bit of a loss.

How much food is going in? that could be affecting the poo output. Otherwise, the only thing I can think is to dose more than once a day if you are not doing so already? You could also try increasing his fluids? and longer time on the massage pad?

Also would your vet consider an xray to check in case there is a blockage? though I think he would be in a lot more pain if so.

I'm giving him a syringe every now and again of fluid and occasionally with a pro biotic in it for guinea pigs. Metaclopramide is every 8 hours and zantac every 12.

We've had one more small poo and two tiny spots of hard poo. I'm praying for a tidal wave of good quality poops. He's nibbling away now and I'm giving critical care. He's eating enough to poop which is what is concerning.

I'm vibrating him every few hours as he's getting very fed up of the fuss.

He had an x ray last night which didn't show any gas particularly and no blockages, but we discussed an ultrasound if he doesn't improve.

I think he's more uncomfortable now but I'm not surprised if he's hardly pooping! I'm going to give metacam soon as he's done a poo but I'm hoping if he's left alone for a bit he might poo more. Regardless, pain relief in about 20 mins!

Thanks for your advice
