Hi, I just wanted to ask a couple of quick questions to see if this normal guinea pig behaviour. I have 2 female guinea pigs who are nearly 6 months old. Is it normal for guinea pigs not to squeak? I've heard one squeak (with my head up against the hutch as it was so faint) but not the other. They sometimes do make tiny squeaks to each other and make a purring noise when I put them in/out of the hutch (which I think means they can be happy or scared?)
Also whenever I get them out to put them in the run, I talk to them and have them on my lap for a few minutes, I usually offer them some food. I give them or my daughter does a nice gentle stroke and rub behind the ears but they both flick there heads up or away as much to say get your hand off me!
I would say they are very well looked after and cared for. They seem really happy when they go in their run and run around like crazy and popcorn jump. They do come over to the side of the run when we go out as if to say hello.
I just wondered if the squeaking will come later on as they are only 6 months old. I said to my partner I was going to find a YouTube video of guinea pigs squeaking to see if it would encourage ours to squeak! (I won't put his reply
)
With the head flicking is that normal as well? Like I said they are handled carefully and I always oversee my daughter handling them.
Thanks any positive feedback would be really helpful. Apologies if this is on the wrong thread.
