One of my three guinea pigs has developed a white stripe on her nose which looks to be like dried skin.... I have read it could be a fungal type of infection. Is there anything anyone could advise me to do to treat it as at the moment getting to my vet is hard unless it is seen as an emergency by them?

We don’t advocate home treatments - at best they are ineffective and at worst can make problems worse and harder for a vet to diagnose and prolong an illness/problem You will require a vet diagnosis and the appropriate treatments prescribed.

Some fungal nose stripes require creams, some are recommended to be left untouched but only a vet can tell you where your piggies falls into those categories. Give them a ring/send an email with a photo, and they can tell you what they would like you to do and may offer an appointment

Really hard to comment. .
If it's just appeared then something has made it so so. I'd see a vet then you can deal with it.
All the best and sending piggies best wishes too.

Thank you for the advice.

I have already rang my vets once before, however with the current situation, I was unable to even speak to a vet over the phone as they said it wasn’t deemed an emergency at the current time and was told to keep an eye on it to see if it progressed.

I will try to ring them again to see if I am now able to at least speak with a vet.

I wasn’t particularly aiming for home treatments unless it was to bathe it with warm water as I never believe that home treatments is the go to for any illness or injury on any animal, they are simply too different medically from us and it can cause more harm than good. I was simply asking if it was something that could be left alone at the moment if I was unable to speak to a vet with the Covid19 situation currently.

Thank you for your help.

Yes it did seem to just appear over a few days or so where at first I thought it might be white hair growing out as she has a patch of crescent shaped white hair on her head already however when I looked more closely at it it appeared to look like dry flaky skin and I did worry if she had injured herself but from doing some research on it it looks as if it could be a fungal nose stripe so I will try to get to speak to a vet but it is it quite hard at the moment with the Covid19 situation.

It’s great you don’t look to home treatments however your original post asked if anyone could advise you of what to do to treat it - We do have people who do come searching here for home treatments in place of vet care so I am sure you understand we have to be clear in our forum stance on any home treatments in any post in case this post is ever searched upon in the future.
All you can really do is try to contact your vet. A fungal nose stripe isn’t an emergency but some may require some treatment but only a vet is going to be able to tell you whether your case is such.

It's horrible when your piggie suddenly not right and it's only natural to ask for help. Done it myself many times and I know people advise which is better than not getting a response for a vet due to this rare circumstance.
Hope you getting help and pls check the great links on health etc on here.
